What, would you say, is the absolute minimum search results to even be worth trying a keyword or phrase? Disregard the competition for this comparison. I've found a few keywords with 500 - 1000 searches a month (global) for exact match that have very little competition. If I had #1 on Google, how many hits do you think I'd get a month? If monetized properly (let's say PPC and a few affiliate links), would it be worth the effort?

If you're new then there's no limit to how micro you can go to get your feet wet. If it's listed on the Adwords tool then it's getting more than 0 traffic; you can make a few bucks, get a feel for how competitive different keywords are, work out a solid reproducible method and gradually start to apply it to more competitive keywords.

Say global search claims 1000 a month; for the sake of argument real traffic might be 600 a month, divided by 30 days is 20 hits a day, and if you're at number one with a good title / description you might get half of the available clicks for 10 hits a day, very very roughly. Do that for 100 easy keyphrases and you've got 1000 hits a day. Of course, your real numbers will end up being completely different.

Whether that's worth the effort depends entirely on the niche and how valuable the traffic in that niche is.

I'm #2 for a term that only gets 250 searches a month (it's a Google Places site) and I get close to 200 hits a month. It just depends on your niche. 250 sounds like nothing (and it is - LOL), but the amount I get per sale makes it well worth it. Just look at the money to be made per sale/click/etc and the number of searches and you'll be able to make an educated guess as to what's possible.

Just curious, and if you don't mind me asking, how much do you make off of those clicks?
