Millions of file calls, how would you monetize

I've had a myspace layout site for a couple of years and it gets a few million file calls per month with people using my layouts as their wallpaper, background or whatever. I've never looked into monetizing this traffic as adsense used to do real well for me when I ranked for anything myspace related. Now that I don't rank for everything, I thought it is time to monetize the layouts that everyone uses.

What are my options? affiliate links, cookie stuffing, interstitial??

Anyone have any ideas of how to get all of these page views and file calls for layouts to bring in some revenue? I'm looking to move the site in a couple of months so I'd like to get the revenue as high as possible with the SE traffic I have, but more importantly how many thousands of users are using my layouts.

you could change all the images that are hotlinked to redirect using .htaccess to cookie stuff...

You could - but then you would be caught right quick and banned.

I would replace the adsense with CPA or affiliate links to products that target your visitors.

Do they actually have to come to your site to download the files? If so throw up a couple of affiliate banners. I always assume myspace is for teens and bands (but I could be wrong) so I would put up some kind of music or ipod related offers.

What is your PR? If they have to visit your site your traffic amount is great, so you should be able to sell links from your site.

Any chance you can make some "super duper myspace graphics or packages" and sell them to your visitors?

Throw up some [email protected] links to items that are in the same category as the graphics they are downloading.

Kids love free stuff.... build a targeted freebie site with cpa offers on it, then link to it from your layout. Or, rent a billboard out to the highes bidder on the tops of the pages. Just photoshop their ad into the backgrounds...

Odds are if the site is dead and you just have a heck of a lot of people from way back still using the graphics on their layouts? Then the stats are showing lots of file pulls but people arent actually looking at your site. So modifying your site doesnt help much.
I'm in the same boat as you with an old profile site, when I posted on here for ideas no one had any then either :/ Hope you have better luck.

To clarify - this guy has lots of images being direct linked by myspace users. So modifying the site does no good. He's looking for a way to redirect those direct linking people/viewers elsewhere through that one file to something that can be monetized.

    Wow eljefe3, is wiredmom right?

Are you paying for the bandwidth on millions of file calls per month and not making any money from it?

Do you at least get the email address of everyone that links to your files?

If so, mdd345 has the best idea. Sell advertising space within the graphic. That's how they are making a ton of money with the Grand Theft Auto games.

Yes wiredmom is right. The actual site gets maybe 2500 adsense impressions per day, but the number of people using my layouts for their myspace site is very high, so that's why I was thinking of injecting affiliate links or something else. The most popular layouts I have are all sports team related, so something related to this. I don't think tickets to sporting events will work as this demographic doesn't have the money to buy sports tickets, but if there was some sort of freebie/signup where I got paid this might work. I really don't want to sell advertising as that's too much work for too little reward as this site is not one of my priorities, so I just want to pay someone to inject some affiliate links or popup code into the layouts and be done with it. If there is an easy cpm program out there, than I wouldn't mind using that either if the banners weren't obtrusive.

    Cheers!

Hmm, come to think of it, why couldn't I throw in an adsense block into these layouts?

Havent they already copied the code for these layouts? Onto their sites? So adding adsense block would be a bit difficult ..

Nah, it would be simple. Add the adsense .js code into the layout that is hosted at my site. Now I just need to find someone to copy and paste the code into the 500 layouts. Don't think a find and replace would work as the layouts are a bit different from each other.
