This was my thought also..
Yea like it said in the video, that they aren't really aiming to impress until a few more papers down the line. But none the less, this is a huge evolution for a tool that 5 years ago, I thought would probably never exist.
Not to mention the level of Social Engineering that hackers will be able to participate in to gather peoples private information, literally from people who think they're conversing with the authentic person.

I feel like I knew it would, but to actually see it coming into fruition is something entirely different [for me, at least].
It's like staring into the inevitable future, knowing a bit of just how much it will change the world.
Microsoft is starting to dominate the AI space and I am here for it!

Absolutely terrifying in the wrong hands. I feel bad for all that people who will get scammed because they think their Grand son is calling, asking to get out of a jam and need a loan.

Imagine Captcha software *requiring that you speak the Captcha out loud for verification, and then they secretly steal your voice.

Its already happening, I saw a similar scam on Tiktok. Dude's Nana send 20K because she thought her Grandson was in jail. They could do nothing to get it back, and the scammer found an Instagram reel of the kid, found his Grandma tagged, and used a tool like this to replicate his voice.

Not really. These voices will only be made available to accounts with ID verification, and every cloned voice will have its own unique fingerprint, probably hidden in waveforms. Its not much different than a human fingerprint in a crime scene.

I played around with a tool that did something similar, but it took a good 15 minutes of reading random text to work. To get it to sound even better, I probably would've had to train it for over an hour. I can definitely see a lot of youtubers paying for this in the future.
I think human voice. He's well spoken, just has a thick accent. His content is very informative though so either way this would be one of the rare cases it wouldn't bother me.

Yea, it will be as easy as asking chatgpt to write a nice script and then throwing it at your trained voice.
At the supersonic speed we are moving right now, everything is possible. In the future (I mean right now), if you are not talking to a real person, don't trust audio. Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised to hear at the end of the video him saying, "BTW, this video was created by a trained voice reading from a script."
