Is it a bad idea to have say 10 sites, all targeting the same niche, exact same KW on the same hosting server?

I have been building 2-3 sites per niche and I found one niche that I really have been doing well on for sales.

Currently I own the .COM but the .NET/ORG/INFO are all still available and I will be buying them shortly, but I just thought about it after reading a thread on here, is it bad to host all the domains on the same server? I have a Reseller Hosting plan with hostgator.

if you buy the other EMD's, it would be a good idea to host each one on other servers and use them to boost your current ranks for the .com

I should have mentioned that I actually plan on building each of the other domains to be another competing site and us them to gain more sales, not as a place to backlink to the .com since the .com is #1 already.

I want to own the top 4 spots.

In that case should I still use the different hosting method?

The way that I see it is that since most of the traffic goes to the top 3 sites that if I build 3 completely different looking sites that I should be grabbing even more sales.

I don't think of it as competing with myself, I think of it as having no competition.

If anyone is having a hard time understanding my reasoning for wanting to own the top 3-4 spots I recommend you read this:

    Read Arrons Comment.

This is not the soul source for my reasoning, it's just one of many.

Yeah dude. Just make them look different. Why not? You would just own that niche. I would def so go for it. If you know it is a converting niche, I dont see why you wouldnt. You could potentially increase your earnings times 3 :)

It wouldn't be quite 3x but I should go from grabbing 50% of the traffic to somewhere around 75-80%. But before I spend the time I'm just wondering if I should host them all individually. And if so is there a cheap way to do it?

Yes use different hosting companies for each site and use different theme/layout design for each. Maybe a good idea to use private whois also.
