Hello everyone, this post is generally for people new to Facebook as I've seen NUMEROUS threads popping up asking 'how can i get fans', 'how can i get traffic to my page' etc. This is pretty simple stuff, so if you've been doing Facebook for a while you might want to skip this. Tips on how you can gain fans, and make the most out of the traffic that comes to your fanpages: Setting up an attractive fanpage When it comes to attracting fans, one of the most vital steps is setting up a Fanpage which will attract the user. This includes: A good display picture (down the left side) - This will attract visitors to your page to like your page, and also people who see your page image around facebook, i.e when someone likes it your page may show on the newsfeed, or when our page is shared, the image is shown on the sharers profile. Editing your 'About us' information. The information on this page will give your fans extra information about your page. Also, this information is shown under the link of your page when your page is shared on facbebook. Interesting content - Your fanpage must include interesting content. This may be from an fbml tab (see further down) or generally status updates which provide amusement, or if the page is for your company, facts/information about your fanpage. Posting regular status updates, but not too often! When a potential fan visits your page, they don't want to see a bare, empty page. Make sure you make a status update multiple times per week, maybe once or even twice per day. This will show that to potential fans that your page is active, but also provides the option for current fans to engage with your page, and join in with its activity. DON'T GO OVERBOARD! Posting too many status updates will annoy fans as they will see this as spam, and most likely un-like your fanpage. The use of simple FBML tabs An FBML tag is simple to create yet really effective. This is basically a customisable empty page (like an empty webpage) which allows you to add text, images, videos, share buttons and much, much more! You can add an FBML page by doing a simple search on Facebook, or Google. There are many different FBML apps, but they are generally all the same (some minor differences) For more information, use the search function on this forum, or use google. You can set the FBML tab as the default tab (like a default landing page on your website) so when potential fans click on your page, the first thing they see is the FBML page. This can be done by clicking 'EDIT INFO' > Manage Permissions > Default landing tab: FBML Tab Name. On this tab you should add items which you think will attract potential fans. This could range from images relating to your page, text or video. You could even add an image asking them to like your page. On FBML pages you can add an FBML code which means the user has to like the page before seeing content. This has been posted numerous times on this forum, but I have included it below: Code: NON-FANS CAN SEE THIS TEXT. ADD AN IMAGE REQUESTING THEM TO LIKE THE PAGE, SO THEY CAN UNLOCK CONTENT BELOW. <fb:visible-to-connection> FANS CAN ONLY SEE THIS CONTENT WHEN THEY LIKE YOUR PAGE </fb:visible-to-connection> Methods of driving traffic to your fanpage: The use of an existing website If you have an existing website or blog, you can use this to drive traffic to your fanpages. This could be by adding banners to your site, or adding basic links etc. Posting on other pages This method should be used carefully as it may effect your fanpage/the admin account of the fanpage. You could click on the 'Use facebook as 'page name'' link to the right of the fanpage, and then visit active fanpages and post comments on them. These comments could be related, or un-related to the page you are posting on. Spamming random comments and links, may gain fans, but there is a good chance you will be reported. You can go on pages related to yours, and post comments/engage in discussions whilst using Facebook under your account. This means when you post, rather than posting under your account, you post using your fanpage so people it as though it is its own account. Purchasing fans You can purchase fans online from many sources (including myself). Depending on the provider, these will be real users who will interact with your fanpage. This is one of the quickest ways to gain fans, but the fans may not be targeted to your specific niche (if your page is based on one) The downside to this is that you have to pay for fans. Be careful when purchasing fans as some providers send fake likes (multiple accounts) to your page, and some use methods which could harm your page. Using Facebook Ads You can also use Facebook Ads, which is a good method of advertising as you can target fans by country, age, sex, etc. This means fans will be more specific, if this is what you require, but the issue with this is cost. There are posts on this forum that show you how can lower the costs of clicks/fans using Facebook Ads - use the search function to find them. Buying Fanpages An alternate option is to buy Fanpages, and then use these to build your own. This could be done by sharing your fanpages photos and status updates on the new page, or by posting direct links to your fanpage. Be careful when doing this as overusing this could mean loss of fans/activity of fans on the page you have purchased, and the chance of losing publishing (posting) rights. Also be careful when purchasing pages, as the fans may already be unactive, or from a country that is of no use to you. TIP: Create a Page using a PVA (Phone Verified Account), or phone verify your account. Make any PVA's you buy look legitimate by filling out all profile information, adding multiple pictures, liking pages and links on facebook, as well as adding a few friends and posting status updates now and again. Add multiple PVA accounts to your Fanpage to ensure more safety for your page. I hope this information has helped you out. Most of this information is generally basic knowledge, but for those just starting out on Facebook it may be helpful. I may add any more relevant information if neccessary. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask. If I don't answer your question I'm sure someone else will! Also, please feel free to post your own methods/tips of how you gain fans and drive traffic to your fanpages. After all, sharing is caring!
