I was going to add this to my journey thread but then changed my mind to make it a specific thread as I realized this did not just apply to me.

I have had constant question from people over the last few weeks, months, and even years about how I am getting clients. If it is not here, another site, it is my friends and family. As a content writer there are millions of other services who provide a similar service but so many people seem to be failing.

    The Start:
When I started content writing (this can be applied to any service or business) I used Fiverr. Unfortunately at the time the market there for writers was saturated and constantly growing with new people. I never did a gig exchange or any other method to make myself look popular. I was failing at first but rather than quit I really stopped to think about the issue. The fact is no one was going to hire me when they had there go to writer. No one will hire you either, if you are new and the market is saturated.

    Solution:
Rather than wait on people to come to me I decided to do something about it. I went to the people. I messaged people on Fiverr and explained my service. I explained what I had to offer and why it was better than there other seller.

    The Approach:
Maybe it is just how I was raised or maybe it is common sense, but being polite and not pushing things on people is going to make them comfortable. If you seem like you are forcing yourself or come off as a jerk people are going to be turned off even if your product or service is the best thing since sliced white bread (I'm more of a rye bread type haha). Introduce yourself, explain what you have and why it is better than competitors but do not bash the competition. So many times people bash the competition it makes others feel uncomfortable, you are bashing something that they trust. Rather than do that show another side of things. Say, I have x product/service and it will provide you with these benefits. Study the competition and make sure you can offer something more. If you can offer something more it will stand out better than bashing someone else. This should equate to people trying the service or product (Declaimer: It is against the rules here to solicit people here so try not doing that here).

    Working with Customers:
Once you have a customer it is essential to deliver the product or service as quick as possible with the highest quality that not even they could expect. When I would write on Fiverr I had set my delivery date to 3-4 days. After an order was set I would do it in under 12 hours(for the most part), from scratch with perfect University level English. You were basically getting a college paper for $5 in little time. People would flip out and not only praise me with positive feedback but I quickly became a level 2 seller with roughly 100% feedback. After the initial turn around I would get another order from the same person. I always tried to deliver as fast as possible and keep the quality high after as I still did not want to lose these clients.

    Rude or Difficult Customers:
I have never worked with an overly difficult customer myself but maybe it is because I can please them. I do remember one instance when one individual called my work crap after they ordered my gig when I was away and did not realize I had left my gig open (my fault I admit), I did send the work late but he was not happy about that and unfortunately he took it out on my work. I responded to the review with positive feedback about the buyer, apologizing (even if it is not your fault always be nice) and that I would love for another chance as he was a great buyer. Turns out this same individual came back a week later ordering 10+ gigs and leaving positive reviews. I was even asked by the same buyer to writer his entire website content for 500 USD. Point of the story always be nice, if you come off as a jerk then word will go around.

    Do not Sell yourself Short:
After you have gotten the customers flocking to you it will open flood gates as new users strive to work with established and highly respected sellers (leave getting customers to the new guys now). From here you can begin to increase prices and set prices that would almost be impossible to have set before. I know for me I always felt like I was lowering myself when I sold my work for $4 (the amount Fiverr gave me) as I knew I was better than anyone else on Fiverr when it came to authority content at the highest level of the English language. If you work hard and pay your dues you can be setting monumentally high prices for any services, provided they are actually of quality and you have customers flooding in. I have seen posts here before where writers (or people from other businesses) say that the market price for their products is $X, well who cares what market price is after you have established yourself. Yes some customers may leave but higher quality customers will come. I know my prices now are fluctuating to find the perfect price point, it is no big deal to tinker around till you find something that works but do not sell yourself short!

If this helps even a single person I will be happy!

    All the best,

    GentlemanX
