Niche: B2B (can’t get more specific).

Type of site: affiliate software and related products review site.

Blog strategy: they have a blog that is basically a large accumulation of statistics for everything related to their niche. Plus a lot of tangentially related statistics. The idea of a statistics blog is nothing new, but it has been executed this way for an affiliate site.

Before we go any further, let’s check out their numbers:

So how does one of these blogs look?

“Catchy title - 99 Statistics about X in 2021”
H2s are bright colors featuring the statistic. Followed by a blurb explaining the stat.

Then it's this ^^ x 99. So yeah, a lot of content.
They use a nice set of jump links on the right side to bring attention to the specific section of the article.

At the bottom of the article, we’ll find an infographic, but it’s worth noting that they do note tout the article as an infographic.

The real kicker - All of these posts completely bury the citation to the original statistic. This means that the site gets all the credit when a lazy blogger finds their page, links to it, and mentions the stat!

One more note about how they link to the sources. All they do is list their sources at the very end. Branded anchor, doesn’t say which stat they provided. Smart? Heck yeah. A little sleazy? Umm yeah, but this is SEO and they aren’t writing this content out of the goodness of their hearts.

If you’re looking a way to streamline statistics gathering, check out https://www.statista.com/ (no affiliation). Be warned they will try to upsell the shit out of you, but a https://www.statista.com/accounts/ is worthwhile especially if you’re going to try this.

One thing of note: This site took a hit to their traffic value after the November and full December update rollout.

Since then they’ve added a news section about their niche, but you can totally tell that they are doing this to balance out the ratio of their commercial content. The news articles are topical, well-written, clearly cite good sources, but they are all 400-500 words and are clearly there to shift their ratio of commercial to non-commercial content. It takes them approx. 20% of the effort to write these than one of their stats blogs.

The podcast on topical relevance was pretty dope btw.
Glad you shared this.
