Hey everyone, so today I'm going to try and outline a method that I used for a good six years from about 2009. There is no reason this method cant be replicated now in fact it may actually be easier to replicate due to the amount of templates out there available for the work that were not available back in the day. only reason I'm not doing this method anymore is I got burned out and have no love for the graphics niche anymore.

    Introduction:
when I was about 19 I was a university student looking for work since I was a kid I always loved to do graphics design for online games I would play and I actually became a designer for a few of these. My best friend in University was a club bouncer and later manager and he told me one day he was looking for someone to design flyers for one of his clubs I immediately offered myself and we started a relationship where I would design a flyer for $100 every week (and no cover entry to the club :p). later on I made more connections with more clubs and people and I became one of the more used designers in Ottawa Canada. at one point I was doing about seven flyers a week which would take me about an hour each (100 an hour cant complain for a 19-year-old).

I later learned actually through the black hat forum the joys of email marketing from some email outreach and a budget of about $200 I grew my client list by six-fold. I got to a point where I was so overworked and I couldn't find anyone good enough to outsource to that I just let all my clients know that I wouldn't be able to take care of them since I was starting another full-time job ( realizing what I did now this was one of the dumber decisions of my life) my loss is your gain!

    The Method:

    Step 1 Email List-

the first thing I did and I recommend you do is accept that this will require a small investment may be $200-$300. What I did and I recommend you do is go on freelancer.com and find someone that will be able to scrape a list of all the club managers assistant managers and general managers from nightclubs in your city/country. the great thing about these guys is their emails are so readily available because they are always looking for people to email them with table requests and VIP requests so it's not difficult to get lists of these emails. I had someone manually do the scraping and I'm telling you the list that I got from his manual scraping compared to another list I got from a paid list company was night and day.

    Step 2 The Email -

The email needs to be as clean and unsuspecting as possible you need to be able to make this email look like it was tailor-made to the exact general manager while still sending it out hundred times a day. I don't have access to the old the model I created but I do remember the way it went.

Hello (Auto Generated Name From List)

my name is John Doe I am a graphics design major from Carleton University I recently graduated and I have been looking for work that relates to my studies I usually don't send out emails like this and I really don't want to bother you so thank you for taking the time to read this far. I have been a fan of the (Auto Generated Name From List) nightclub for many years and regularly go there with friends I just wanted you to know that I would be willing to create nightclub flyers for your club on a regular basis or part-time basis as long as you need if you don't already have a graphics designer I would love to help you with this work I have a portfolio which you can see here and I would love to do the first design at half the price just so you could see the value of having someone like me on your team.

I hope this email reaches you and we find some synergy together!

    Regards,

    John
PS. This is not a spam email it has been sent directly to you from me if you don't reply I will never bother you again, thanks again for your consideration.

    Step 3 sending the email

This was the more difficult part for me I really needed to research what system I was going to use. I found the perfect system in bulk mailer now you have to understand that doing this method there is some risk since back then the ICANN spam laws were not in place now if you send out spam there is an actual chance that you can get sued though I've only heard of one major lawsuit on this and this was against the king of email spam.

Back then the software that I used was bulk mailer Pro I found a link here to it on Pirate Bay not sure how clean it is so you take your own risk downloading it from this Torrent https://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5083519/Live_Bulk_Mailer_Professional_6.1 No reason this oldschool mailer cant be utilized today. No way you can use mailchimp since it requires optin or any other service for newsletters like that is out.

I plugged in all of my emails perfectly filtered I put in the filtered cases so the names would change as well as the filtered case for the club name so the club name would change in the body of each email. Now because of my particular ISP had an email limit of about 100 emails a day before you were flagged as a spammer I would manually send out these hundred emails a day through the bulk mailer never going over 100.

My success rate was the following

    1st week 700 emails sent = 100 replies = 50 sales on 50% off, 10 returning permanent customers.

The success rate on this was absolutely insane! I began to branch-out into the US market and had my scraper get a list of US club owners. at one point I was offered a job as the lead designer for one of the biggest clubs in Manhattan, but there was a caveat I never got it, after my first two designs for them they told me that my designs were good but they just weren't at the level of insanely good that they needed for the price (they were offering me 400 a flyer for 5 flyers a week to be their only designer). I even tried for a while to outsource I looked for every designer I could find at the Manhattan level and I couldn't find anyone good enough for club flyers in specific, this eventual hit got me depressed and made me stop investing time in this business and returned to my full-time job in the corporate marketing world in Toronto.

Step 4 Scaling/ Outsourcing if you don't know graphics design

There are a few options here I did try a few freelancers firstly on fiver while not so surprisingly the quality is horrific on some of these so you really gotta get lucky to find someone good and even when they're good you'll be stressing out hoping that they get you the design in time.

My personal favorite option was to buy flyers from a design shop that sold them in bulk and customize them you don't need too much Photoshop experience to make these already great flyers look good back when I was working there was a site that sold them which is now down but I see that there is a good competitor that sells amazing flyers at flyer hero. If you can get the turnaround time down there is definitely money to be made here. Also the great thing is the turnover for club GM's and owners is so large and clubs close and open so much that almost every other year you're dealing with a completely new market even though a lot of club overs move you still have a great chance to keep this working.

Best of luck everyone hope this gets a few of you that steady income your looking at or at least a few extra bucks to reinvest into IM hehe.

Oh yeah my past sites were clubflyers.net djflyers.net nightclubposters.com clubflyersdesign.com I think i may have misspelled some of them hehe back in the day i just tried to go for EMD's. My Seo skills were crap back then so only got about 10 clients from the sites through their whole lifetime.

EDIT: Heres the freelancer.com project listing i had up spoon fed
    "
I would like someone to go through the web and find me a list of email contacts to marketing directors and managers, and general contact emails of Nightclubs in Canada. The website I would like you to use is clubzone.com, if you find a better source for these emails then go ahead! When you go to clubzone.com there is an option to search for clubs, I would like you to search under Canada the first 7 cities are the most important i.e: Calgary,Edmonton,Montreal,Toronto,Vancouver BC,Whistler,Victoria. I would also like you to go to Other Cities->Ontario->Ottawa and find all the emails to the related clubs from there. Please do not just add [email protected] to all the club websites you find, I will see my emails bounce and know you tried to scam me. This should be a fairly easy job and just require clicking and searching. If you do a really good job and its successful I will probably want more work done for the other cities in Canada. Also I am open to brainstorming for ways to find more contact info and emails so shoot me a pm Cheers! "

Its old by now about 5 years old, i can see if i can dig it up but not sure it would be too valuable considering the industry turnover, most of the emails would bounce by now

Nice method but sadly not for me as I suck at graphics.

I just wanted to point out that Mailchimp doesn't actually require an optin, you can simply just upload an existing list. I don't think this is the case for aweber though.

Thanks wow, lost access to all of the new ones i had created which were the high quality ones, only can find my old portfolio from when i was just starting. The new ones 2-3 years after these were much better quality as skills improved. But alot of this is now available as templates you dont even have to do much but change text

These days there are so many templates available you just need photoshop editting experience, check out this site, also on envato there are templates, you buy one for $5 and resell for 50-100
    http://flyerheroes.com/

Toronto, my city has probably 50 different clubs and bars, most of them have events once or twice per week. Randomly as well my scraper had accidentally added some restaurants to the list which responded back and I did a bunch of menus and flyers for restaurants, so this method can be pivotted

No way! Haha thanks for the support follow tdotian :) Some big clubs i did work for you may have heard, Circa, Government, then a ton of smaller bars that are gone by now. Also i once did work for ashton kutchers restuarants in LA, was in contact with the host of the famous food show of vh1 was supposed to get some work out of that but the show and the restuarants tanked booo http://www.esquire.com/food-drink/food/a10504/heidi-montag-restaurant-show-6075763/

Well personally I never got reported and I sent out more than 2000 emails, the trick is to only do 100 a day and make sure your email is super friendly and i feel the line at the bottom really clears things up where you state their never going to hear from you again if they dont reply and their not in any list.

I only had one angry reply and crap i wish i had kept it it was gold. Someone calling me a spammer and saying I should be ashamed of myself. I replied saying im really sorry I wasted his time and I didnt mean to offend him and would never contact him again. No lie he responded next day and offered me a job to help in his magazines design department, I declined but still was really eye opening if you respond to peoples anger with kidness the karma is limitless

also if your really worried, you can use multiple emails and setup forwarders to your main email
