For google, this is completely worthless.

I can not speak for msn or yahoo.

I do about 15 long tails and have reached average results.

Your main concern will be content regardless.

Dont over do your keywords, or it will be chalked off as spammy

Where do you post your keyword? Making keyword rich post?

I posted this yesterday if you are using wordpress:

If you post titles are awesome, this would work well. As far as meta keywords being irrelevant, I would do it just in case since it don't take much time. I stick to my 5 main targets myself, I have heard it said max should be 10 - 15.

They might not gain anything but hey, it's there so I use it. I can confirm however that Matt C.SL.utts does not use meta keywords on his blog. He does use meta description though. But for him it doesn't really matter if he uses anything, he's the great and powerful OZ :D

Don't waste your time on Meta Keywords. Like mentioned above Meta keywords were used in the 90's. They were used so much and abused so much that Google has never used them as a ranking factor on any of their algorithms, and yes Google has admitted it publicly and recently even in a small little lawsuit over Keywords.
Bing is the same. They are just too easy to abuse.

Now Yahoo! is a slightly different story. They admitted recently at SMX last week that they no longer (and for the past few months) used Meta Keywords as a decision factor in their ranking algorithm but some tests do prove that they still may use them in their sorting and categorizing algorithm.

Plus if you are using correct unique content on your site then you do not need to list meta keywords because the content speaks for its self.

A lot of SEO's still use them though out of habit or best practices but you really dont need them. If you choose to use them, you can use them for common miss spellings of words or additional words related to your site and no more then 10 to 15.

Meta keyword is told not to be used by search engines anymore, but many sources said that max should be 10 per page
