Everything in marketing is a variable except one fundamental thing. Anything that draws the attention of a user for a moment is a marketing opportunity. If you understand it, you can understand 90% of the trends in marketing. Let it be the hot girls in a car advertisement, adventures for a pizza, fight for a chocolate or a race for a soft drink. In majority of the cases, the product and the theme of the advertisement are not even close. But it mostly works because it draws attention and makes the user glance at it for a moment. This element of marketing never changed over decades or may be centuries.
Everyone advises us to see ahead of the curve but we can't study the current trends until they become popular, particularly in a vast subject like marketing. Viral Marketing is an already popular trend which is used by many brands. The companies promote their products or services using appealing, engaging, and fast-spreading content through social media platforms. The users can't resist their urge to interact with and share the content. There is a segment of viral marketing which is trending but not yet popular.
I'm pretty sure all of you saw one meme or another and they are all over the internet. It doesn't mean that they are popular in all niches. Majority of the meme pages and channels are dedicated to entertainment industry where there is a constant supply of content for creating memes. But there are tons of other niches where there are insignificant amount of meme pages.
Have you ever seen a entrepreneurship meme page? Or a weight loss meme video channel on YouTube? These are very rare and the algorithms of social media and youtube hides them from marketers like us (mostly because we do general research). There are many niche meme pages hidden in plain sight. Some are growing millions of followers yet most of us just ignore them.
The biggest advantage we have with meme pages is that they are addictive in comparison to regular info pages. Another advantage is that we can promote products based on interest of the users instead of reviews & testimonials. For example, we can promote weight loss products with Disney princess memes, cat food with Fast & Furious memes, baby products with Marvel memes, Money manifestation product with Breaking Bad memes etc.
The users feel a connection and quickly connect to your products. Memes can get away with copyright infringement as they are under fair use policies. Find opportunities in your niche before it's too late. Memes are the future but don't blame me if it doesn't work for you.
