    Hey guys,

I have been reading here for about 2 years and have made some cash. Lately I have been looking for local jobs on C/L to expand my experience, but I have a pretty beast resume of what I say I can do. I mainly PPC, but I know a little bit about SEO and media buys and stuff.

They are a pretty big company and are already ranked for #1 for the keyword, this has made me pretty nervous about getting the job.

So does anyone have any advice for me? I know I can talk ALOT in the interview, but I am afraid I will not be able to back it up. I outsource nearly all of my work.

Thanks for reading, I'll be checking and responding to this thread FREQUENTLY!

The easy part is to talk, what you need to do is "Explain". Give examples of what you've done and why you did it that way.
Also be prepared for them to ask you "So what would you do to increase our rankings/profits/clients?" Again, explain what would you do and keep in mind that in this case a lot of details are good.

    Good luck.

Why does this make you nervous? You've been a member of BHW for 2 years, you should know that getting #1 isn't terribly difficult.

By being a member of BHW, you know more about IM than 99% of the people out there.

Tell them that you are not necessarily an expert in every marketing niche but that you are an expert in getting things done. Then tell them when you were younger your father taught you a wonderful lesson that you have carried with you thru life. Say he told you " Just remember that you dont have to know how to do something to get it done, that you only have to know how to make sure it gets done" and thats what you can bring to the table for their company, i.e. A professional with attention to detail and a devotion to being the best in whatever you do. Then show them examples of your projects and accomplishments you have managed thru out the years.

Then smile and tell them you are ready start! :)

Whatever you do, don't promise them that you'll make them number 1.

It's a job interview with people who probably know the existence of BHW. You should be more concerned with what they are looking for and making them understand that you can give that to them. Do your research on them. One thing I hate is when job seekers start telling me how great they are in SEO. If you are so good, why don't you go start your own just like I did?

So first understand its a job interview not a bragging contest. Take it like you were going for an secretary job and show them that your experience is going to improve their business and that you are a good fit for their company. Not that you are another newbie blackhatter who knows more than them.

    Great advice, thanks guys.
The reason it made me nervous was that they were already ranked for those keywords so they must have had someone that knew SEO pretty well. But now that I think about it, they probably had an outside consultant they they are paying too much and want someone in house.

I know I can figure out how to do anything within a hour of work, but thanks for the confidence guys, it really helped!

    Edit:
What do you think I should be getting paid for handling all of thier PPC/Social Media/SEO/ and other marketing plans ideas? I live in the States, and It will be about a 45 min drive. So I am expecting a decent offer if they decide to go with me.

I also am thinking that this kind of position wont be getting a lot of hours per week, which I am fine with, how many hours per week do you guys think a IM specialist should be working?

That depends on how you value your worth and what this company actually does and how they are organized. But if I was in your position as this is your first time taking a marketing position with a company, and also keeping in mind you are going to have to outsource a portion of what you are doing, you have to also take the money you will pay out for regular outsourcing. I am sure its not going to be a position of what you want to be paid, but rather they are going to tell you what their pay is and how they do raises-from their you can either except it or pitch for more.

That is the beauty of IM, you work as much as you want to, not as much as you should or have to.. But I think the amount of work you have is a good reflection of how good you are..

As with big companies all they really care about is the bottom line, so impress them with examples of how you think your expertise will increase their profits.

Got a second interview setup soon! They looked like they have everything handled in the social/ppc/seo already so I don't know why they had that on the ad. They want me to come up with some marketing strategies for targeting a certain part of other larger company's. I'm making a Offline marketing thread for suggestions and I'll link if here if anyone wants to put in some insight.

Thanks for all the kind words and advice,
    Nathan
