    Hello

I am having a meeting with that dentist that I posted about a while ago. it will be to redesign his website. I have never had a meeting with a client. well I have, but not really like this.

I am so nervous, mostly because I dont know what kind of format the meeting will be. like I walk in, then what? We shake hands. Then what? What are we going to talk about? Do I take my laptop with me and show my past work? but I already emailed him the list of websites i have worked on before (I confirmed that he visited these websites by analytics)

so now what? I go in, what am I going to say?

Take your laptop with you just in case. Go over what you guys already spoke about, and go over what you're going to be doing step by step. Re-assure him that web exposure is a vital part of business these days, etc etc.

I just had a job interview and was also nervous! Just go in ready and leave the talks open, so times it may just be talking like normal people and other times you will have to let them know how you can help them.

Most of all, dont go in acting like you are the king of all shit. . . Owners get that all the time and I have learned they like the more down to earth kind of person.

no need to be nervous. just be friendly. dentist knows more about your teeth than websites :) repeat to yourself "I am the king of websites" Once you start talking about webdesign, seo etc, you wont be nervous anymore...however dress professionally, smell nice and probably shave...half the battle is won at the entrance itself

Just be enthusiastic about working with him, but don't offer to lick his balls, and also keep in mind he is running a business, so he doesn't need you there for like 2 hours saying, i can do this, i can do this, i can do this. Keep to the point, what he wants achieved, go over the deal conditions, shake hands and leave. Most people only have 15 mins to spare to stick to that timeframe.

You never know anything until the exact moment you walk into his office.

I recommend you go prepared. Bring your laptop and any papers you may need. I also recommend you get there a little early, 10-15 minutes will do it.

When you first start talking to the client find something casual, but personal to talk about. Pictures of his kids on the wall? A picture of his wife? A gold trophy? His Dental degree? Use these to start with a casual conversation. Get comfortable with him while your talking, but dont go to off topic. When you feel pretty comfortable get down to business. You can say something like "Well, I know you're a busy man so I dont want to take up an more of your time" and then start with the business talk.

Another thing to do while talking business is to over-deliver. By this I mean.... You're redesigning his website? Correct? Then tell him there will be unlimited revisions, on page SEO, free web hosting paid for by you. If there are any details you left out when you emailed him then nows the time to show them. If he sees that he's getting "more" than you told him then he will be a happy client.

Another thing to do if you're having trouble convincing him is to compare him to his client, but not in an insulting way.

Hope this helps, if you have any questions then ask!

    All the best.

by papers, do you mean like brochures showing like Premium Plan $2000/month Gold Plan $3000/month? i dont have any of that. I could print something off my printer, but it will look really unprofessional.

I plan to say something like "so what kind of dentistry do you practice" and if he says like "I am a cosmetic dentist" I will say "in college, I always thought I would become a cosmetic dentist" is that good?

    Nop.

Start from introduction, then you will talk probably about traffic/weather, how easy did you found his practice in building, etc. and then you will start talking about business (you know best what you should talk about).

Remember, wear nice suite, clean up and polish shoes, prepare some business card, take best watch which fits to you. Remember that first impression is made on your look and it is made in first seconds, how you walk, how you look, etc. etc. if you will sell yourself during first 20 seconds you may have much easier road to win... So remember most important is first impression !

    Look on YT.

I totally agree with the member above me, clean up well, but don't be something you're not. If you're a suit guy, wear a suit. If you're a casual guy, wear a polo shirt and nice jeans. Wear something tha is appropriate for you.

As for coming prepared. Definately bring business cards if you have any. Maybe print out any statistics you may need. Again this stuff might not be needed, but it always good to have just in case.

You don't want to sound like your reading a script when you talk. You can ask him how long he's been a doctor. Whatever comes to mind at that time I would bring up. See a busy office of patients? Tell him how busy it is and compliment him.

The only things you can do is be prepared and play it by ear.

Do some basic keyword research and know the exact traffic that you get with cityname/keyword for his practice.

Look at his name and compliment the fact that people search by name if there is any traffic associated at all with it. .

Don't tell him yellow pages and local ads don't work anymore, if he is getting business from these sources you will look like an idiot. Instead say that traditional advertising is delivering diminishing results year after year (which he already knows), while an effective web presense brings in new customers from now on.

watch the conversation flow, and before you go, get your facts down.

    Anticipate objections:

    Them:
    "It costs too much"

    You:
The cost of building and doing SEO is less than an ad in the yellow pages the size of a business card for one year, less than a similar display advertisement in craigslist or your local paper for a month. Just divert some of your traditional budget to the website and you will get a much greater ROI.

You: According to Pew Research a local business today is missing out on 40% of potential customers if they do not have a web pretense. What is the cost of ignoring almost half of your potential
    customers?

You: How much is a new customer worth? If you only average 2 customers a week, you will gain over 100 new customers each year, or a new customer every 3 days., which is 8 new customers a month.

    Them:
How does SEO get me customers?
    You:
By making sure your website pops up when people are searching for your products/services.

    Good Luck to you

remember you are the expert, not him. YOU lead the conversation in the direction that you want it to go and try to anticipate what he might want to ask, be ready with a response.

use a couple of words that only people in your field know and understand so he will realize you know more than he does about this stuff.

keep good eye contact, solid handshake, don't slouch, sit upright, give a good smile but don't be goofy wit it.

    good luck bro-ham

I personally have a dentist as an SEO client for almost a year and a half now. First off, I wouldn't bring a laptop in, and I would just dress how I normally dress. He's just a dude that works on peoples teeth.. hes a human being, I promise. Don't try to impress him and just be yourself.

I can't speak for web design but here's my advice if you get talking about SEO.

When you start talking, focus on numbers, they love it and can easily understand it. Talk to him about the LTV of his clients (lifetime value)

For instance, ask him how much he makes on an average patient visit, how many times his average customer will come back in one year, and how long they stay a client, and whether he usually gets referrals or not.

Once he understands that one patient is worth more than $5,000 to his practice over their lifetime as a patient, and you can bring in multiple patients per month, he will be sold. Show him how many people are searching total for a dentist in his city (use exact match) .. if there are around 1,000 searches with all the keywords added up, explain to him once he gets high rankings he can expect 20% of that traffic.. 200 visitors.. then with a 2% conversion rate that's 4 new patients per month... or $20,000. I wouldn't charge a dentist anything less than $1,000 per month for seo. Good luck man!

Ohh man, you just made my night.... ROFLOL

OP you have nothing to worry about. No don't wear a suit, this isn't a corporate meeting. I guarantee you he won't be wearing a suit, and you will just look like a pretentious schmuck. Bring your laptop. He's going to want to go over your past work even if he already visited your sites, plus it's great to work with visual ques. "I can do this", "Well I really like the way this looks", etc. Then talk about traffic, rankings, conversions, what they can do as far as promotions, Adwords campaigns..... you know all this shit (right :) Just make sure you have your pricing in order. Nothing looks more amateurish than when you don't know how much your own services should cost. Bring a pricing diagram/chart.

    You own this guy.

If the client is as nervous and a first-timer as OP is, he too would probably be doing the same with OP.

So that's going to one hilarious meet after all! hohohohoho!

    OP, keep us informed... :)
