    Hi

I am meeting my first web design client this Monday. I just realized I dont have business cards, so I started calling places. every place that i called cannot have the cards ready for me by monday. or they want a gazillion dollars for rush service.

I am kind of freaking out over not having business cards, i think it looks unprofessional. if i show up to the guy's office on monday with no business card, will it be a big deal?

Go up to office max and get the business card paper. They are precut and you can print them by the sheet. They will work for now until you can order some from moo.com

Best thing to do is if he asks you for one just kinda play it off... Like feel around your pockets and say "I thought I had a few more, but I guess I just ran out" That way it looks like you have some but you have given them to your other clients. Might make you look like you have alot of work and seem you know what your doing.

A business card does not make the business, You do!

I have seen these, but I am not sure if I trust their quality. will these look like I printed them in my own printer, or will these look professional? I think not having a card is better than having a card that looks like I printed at home.

You can make your own with graphics software and print on photo paper then get them laminated somewhere.
Or get some of that crappy business card paper and print some of them off then carefully get rid of the perforated tear-off edges with a sharp blade to make them look less shite. Again laminating can help here too.
Electronic Kiosks - see if you can find a machine which makes them. They have them here in the UK at places like motorway service stations and shopping centres sometimes.

    This exactly.

If you can't manage to get your cards printed by monday, just pretend you usually have some but this time you can't find one in your pockets because you've just ran out of them.
This happens all the time for real to every business people !

And anyway, this will be your best bet, because if you design and print cards in a rush, you will end up with cards that are not as good as they could be, and this is worse than just "running out of cards".

So just do this, and next time you'll meet him (I wish you to get this business and meet him again ;) ) you'll hand him a nice and decent card you will have taken the time to finetune before printing :)

Don't pretend and don't print them yourself; get them professionally made.

Ask for his card first and say you will follow up with him via email. If he asks for yours tell him that they are on the way. Be honest lol

if you're already meeting, the chances are you have each others details. So don't worry - they won't ask!

On the off-chance something important happens and you need his word for something, ask for his personal card so you can get through directly to him to sort things out. He shouldn't need to contact you in the first place (you're supposed to make it as easy as possible for them!)

If he asks, follow the advice above. Believe it or not, it's not a big deal. In Japan, yes. In the UK, Europe and the USA, no. However, if you were in Japan, you wouldn't have got where you are without one! (Even postmen have business cards!)

Buy a cheap small usb flash drive with a keyring, tell him your details are on that, and just put an html document on there. Its quirky and cool, and your defiantly be remembered as the guy with the 21st century business card.
