Hi.
here is the thing.
i have one client who wants to rank well for several competitive keywords.
i took the challenge, he pays a misery (freelancer) but its something.

Well, when i was doing an analysis of his website and his backlinks, 2 thing called me attention.

-he had 2 thousand backlinks from a same domain.
- and on his website only 84 pages of 8 thousand were indexed by google.

So i went to check the source of the back links. This website, niche related with my clients website, has a sidebar with several back links with anchor text from difference website. The home page is PR6. Thats great. but the 1999 pages left of that website have PR N/A and the anchored back links is placed in every single one of them.
I asked my client about this, and he told me that he made a 1 time payment (i didn't what to ask how much). I told him than that was useless (please don't tell me am wrong) cause all the back links were placed in the same domain, and the only back links that mather is the one in the Homepage.

And about the 8k pages of his website, he told me that the 80% of his content is scraped from different website (jobs) so i told him that we MUST disallow all those pages to be scraped by the google spiders, because after the last Zoogle updates, the duplicated content could also affect the entire website. Also i think that with so many pages to check by the spiders its like a waste of time and resources by google.

So... i want to make sure that i took the right decisions and ask you for some advices, if am doing it right or wrong, and also teach me some grammar cause my english sucks.

best regards

It depends on your SEO strategy.

You created this topic in White Hat SEO, so this way you're right - these 2000 links are almost useless. They won't do great harm I believe, because they haven't done it before, so...
Although it may work. Sidebar links are not as bad as footer links. If it works now, you may leave them but track the stats and be ready to remove them from the website and Google index if you doubt about their influence on the website and see unexpected ranking drops etc.
You have to check it because someday Google will completely discourage such things. Now it still may work, as I have said before.
And, by the way, I wouldn't say that just homepage links are worth it. Various links may be useful.

Speaking of the content - here I agree with you, it is better to hide it from indexing. Especially if non-unique content is 80% of the site.

Please don't get me wrong. i don't believe that only home pages backlinks are the best. Its just in this particular case that home page has a PR6 meanwhile the rest of the website, every single page of it has PR N/A. My clients website is 1 year old and he got those back links like 7 months ago, for just 1 keywords and that keywords its not even top100

Well today i updated the robots file. disallowed the folder with all the Duplicated content and also removed it from the sitemap too.

And see what happens.

Thanks 4 the feedback webmeup

Try to get in touch with the website that gives you a home page backlink on PR6. Bring this issue in their notice as well and if you do it in a good way then the webmaster of the website may give you more links on other domains he might possess. Put some constructive arguments with SEO friendly changes they can implement on their website.

As far as the duplicate content is concerned, You've done a good job. Block the crawlers and start working on making the content unique.

Thanks!

Well i couldnt get a sweet deal with that guy. My client dicided to handle. The website owner already remove the backlinks from all the other pages.

Also we jumped from 88 pages indexed in my clients website to 821 :D

Now.. with my backlinking campaing. 3 of 4 keywords jumped from been out of the radar to 238, 334, and 650. Not bad for just one week in a competitive niche.

But i have a question..

Actually google is indexing around 4-5 backlinks per day...and also is de-indexing around of 25-30 backlinks per day too (the ones from that PR6 website, so there is like 1800 backlinks that must fly very soon) So... my point is.. and please i need an opinion who hasexperienced something similar. It would be good to increase my backlink building...like going 10 times more agressive because am loosing like 30 backlinks a day and just getting 5-7 new backlinks a day..its a good idea?..

thanks guys!
