It is the first time ever i did such thing.... With all the negative SEO threads i've been reading lately, i snapped !

While Spyglassing competitors for a customer which is stuck on the bottom of the first page on a tough keywords for 2 weeks, i noticed that somebody which was above had many expired domains as backlinks. And it was his main backlinks, probably some domains with PR divided into subdomains. He probably bought them all at once a year ago and they are now parked.

I intended to steal his backlinks but there were nothing to steal so i pinged those expired domains.

    And i'm feeling happy about it ! Am i sick ? :D

No matter what, i'm really looking forward his drop in the abysses of Google mouhaha !

Purpose of this thread, share a tiny trick for you guys, if you ever meet this situation and you are eager to earn some time ;).

I don't think that is too bad. His backlinks were expired. He wasn't entitled to his rankings. That's better then blasting his site with shitty links.

Actually...it's a pretty good idea. What program are you using to monitor your competitors backlinks?

I know it isn't too bad, i was just making it as a drama, but it would have eventually happened anyway. But if he renews the domains a bit later maybe he won't come back as strong as it was (praying for a PR update in the next days :p)

I used Spyglass from SEO power suite.

I wouldn't call it negative SEO as much as helping to update Google for accuracy... ;)

Hope it works out for you

i could swore I Remember a couple of mods making a post saying that if they saw any other threads regarding negative seo etc. the user would be banned.

I might be wrong though, cause I tried to find it and I remember the posts specifically saying that but maybe it was taken down? who knows. I know what you were talking about isn't exactly negative seo but figured i'd give ya the heads up either way.

I personally hate the idea of people being able to do that. but Big G's allowing people to do it. so might as we well get it out there and figure out how to combat it when someone does it to you.

I dont really think this is negative SEO at all. You aren't doing anything to harm his site, your just letting google crawl the links that don't exist.

If someone did that to me, I would be pissed but then again everyone's in it to make money.

Only problem I could foresee is if you couldn't get all of the data and rankings that they had on the domain. If you redirect the domain you may be giving yourself a weaker link than what he received. I personally would have pinged the links as well.
