this looks to be one of the current trends; service jobs slowly vanishing.
now is the time to cash in.

    From John Chow:

"The signs are all around us. Jobs are becoming obsolete. Within the next decade, there will be no need for drivers because the cars/buses/trucks will drive themselves. Amazon will deliver your packages to your door with drones.

Not only is McDonald's installing self serve order stations, but they're working on an automated hamburger machine that can crank out over 2,000 burgers an hour.

What does all this mean to you? If you have a job in the service industry, or you make your living delivering stuff, odds are, your job will become obsolete in the next decade.

This is why it's so important that you have a back up plan, and that is the beauty of an Internet marketing business. This is something that you can start in your spare time and have it grow to a point where you can kiss that job good bye."

I like using those self service machines.

there is no way stopping to the problem of machines taking jobs. and one day we (as in everyone) on this planet will have to deal with the fact that there simply isnt enough jobs and there are just too many people, and when we reach that (which we will) we all need to change the way we live and how societies work, for better or worse.

hell the reason most people still have jobs is because of planned obsolescence, light bulbs for example can easily be made to last more than 100X than what they currentlly do.
same thing for cars, electronics, and basically anything we use on a daily basis including our mass produced furniture.

most cars today are made to last max 9 years, whereas my cheap car from 40 years ago is made to last and comes with a manual to fix most things on it. [IMG]

John Chow is a con man, claims to be an IM expert but his youtube views are horrible.

" Within the next decade, there will be no need for drivers because the cars/buses/trucks will drive themselves."

I think he doesn't understand how government regulations work, its going to take way more than a decade to even start to have an impact.

Most cars today can last way more than 9 years, people just don't care about proper maintenance and they want something new

Let's hope they do something about the quality of those burgers when they finally get that hamburger machine working.

They have robot vacuum cleaners now. Self service is becoming huge. Amazon is launching a store where you don't even physically pay at any point, they are building robots to pack orders/fill shelves and using drones for delivery.

John Chow might be full of excrement, but he's on to something. IM isn't the solution, he's saying that because those people are his target audience... but there will be a point where people are like "oh fuck..." and it will be too late.

It's probably the kids born today that will face this first.

they can last more than that, but they start breaking things faster after those years maintenance starts piling up and it makes sense to replace the whole car rather than keep it.

The fast food is easy to do, but automated driving isn't going to happen until well after 2027. Too much government regulation and lobbying by unions to prevent it by then.

Cars on the road are actually starting to get older. You can buy a 2017 car and keep it until 2037 if you maintain it well.

Im still conflicted about automated driving, on one hand it will reduce the amount of idiots driving on the roads and safe lives, but on the other hand it's another step into a bleak future for gearheads and the banning of cars altogether.
either way its unavoidable it can only be delayed.

I admit it has gotten better in the last few years but again how many of those cars will actually make it that long?

Honestly, if it's available, I'll always take the self-serve option. Hate to say this, but for the most part, the stereotypes (at least around me) of minimum wage workers at places like Mcdonald's etc are true. The people there generally don't give AF (and can you blame them?) and yes, I'm clearly generalizing here. But for the most part, services at places like fast food restaurant sucks. Again, generally speaking, the only places where I get good service from people who make min wage are places like Asda (Walmart) where they have been forced into buying the whole "we are not just work colleagues, we are a part of the big Asda family!". I actually think the user experience at places like restaurants would benefit greatly from automation, at the very least it would make things more efficient. The only need for an actual human would be front of house and a manager, everything else could be automated.

I cant help but wonder what will happen when you get the first generation born into a world of self-driving cars?

Currently you dont step out into the road cause the monkey behind the wheel might not stop.
If you havnt that fear then you'll just cross the road safe in the knowledge the car will stop - will take ages to get through town and cities no?

Oh hey I recognize those robo-screens! I think that's the McDonalds on Sutter Street in downtown San Francisco. If so, it seems like the majority of the public don't give a fuck and like the touch screens, just going by this: https://www.yelp.com/biz/mcdonalds-san-francisco-61. Food was good as far as Mickey D's go... $4.50 for a McMuffin is a bit fucked, though.

Also, with that technological model, that McDonalds still had just as many employees working back of the line, but with the touch screen options orders were obtained quicker, so they could turn around these orders faster, increasing efficiency.

I see no problem with any of this.

The people at the tills near me are miserable lumps of flesh, and for good reason too. Can't imagine what it would be like serving up heart attack food all day fkn long.

No job / business can emerge unscathed from the coming AI revolution.

The only people who will be relatively safe will be those who can create these algorithms that businesses and governments will use.

Some businesses will thrive by not having AI and not using automated systems.
