I recently used Scrapebox to give about 10 or so old Squidoo pages a much needed boost. Most of them held respectable rankings at the bottom of 1st page or second page Google. I thought a few extra backlinks would boost them up nicely.

The exact opposite is happening. About 3-4 days after I hit them all with scrapebox they dropped dramatically, some by hundreds of places! Now its about two weeks in and some are still dropping.

The links werent excessive, most have just gained a couple of hundred steadily over this period but that was from only about 10 links per page originally.

This is very strange I feel...why is Google doing this? Do you think it has interpreted the sudden extra links as spam? I mean they haddnt had any links in a while but I certainlley diddnt over do it.

I have just continued to build links, I used directory bot today to submit. Hopefully google will accept them with the links :S

    Zakk is right.

Anytime you do some type of backlink promotion to a site, especially on a larger scale, Google will update it's index when it finds out your site has new content and/or links pointing to your site.

    This is normal.

Did a Scrapebox about a week ago of which about 300 relevant posts showed up in YSE.

Already had about about 400 links in.

    Two month old domain.

My situation is similar ... from number 40 to number 120 after two days to number 170 after three. Just checked today, and now at number 110, so it's actually coming back quite quickly.

Complicated by the fact that I ran out of bandwidth on a crap host, so the site was down for a few days, then moved to a new host.

Anytime you build a bunch of new links your sites will have a tendency to bounce and dance around.

Think of it as though Google has found a bunch more links so they have to reevaluate your ranking.

I know it's annoying when it happens, however, in my experience it's generally a good thing as your sites will often come back ranking better than they were before!

Buy the exact same domain name but with different extension and do a redirect to your original. Or make a complete copy of your autoblog under the new domain. Do some linkbuilding, web 2.0's, but most of all try to fix what got you deindexed and blacklisted from Google so that it doesn't happen again.

use your article or domain name as your main keyword to avaoid link bombing filter

Suppose your main kw is girl friend
If your article title is how to choose perfect girl friend

use that as 50 % of your anchor text variations
max 25 % your main kw i.e girl friend
25 % your other keywords ... that contain girl friend it it.

This should avoid Google dance or at least minimize it.

a lot of so called gurus out there that sell ebooks recommend to use girl friend in 70-80 % ratio .... I followed them , implemented what they said more than a hundred times and failed to rank or slapped by G dance often.

Remember, the main objective of those gurus are to make m oney from their ebooks and not to make you rich.

You guys need to stop titling your threads, 'Scrapebox dropped my rank' and 'My sites are falling after Scrapebox' or whatever.

    Scrapbox didn't do this.

From The SE's perspective though they would see a couple of old pages which have all of a sudden attracted a few hundred backlinks. You mentioned 3 or 4 days after you hit them they took a tumble. Over what length of time did you get the links?

    Remove any black hat work.

Contact Google and say that you hired a SEO guy to help promote your Blog. You had no idea what he was going to do and are "truly shocked".

Say that you believe that you have removed all the bad SEo he has done, and can they reindex your site.

I've done this and it does work as long as you read as though you are on your knees grovelling ...

While you are doing that, build some clones up on similar keywords.

This is the most irritating thing that always drives me nuts. I'll be ranking 2nd or 3rd page and start building backlinks to try to get to page 1 and end up on page 15. Then 3 days later I'm back on page 2 then on page 10 then 3...

So freaking irritating and this is doing it myself not with scrapebox. Only thing I have found that works is don't look at your SERPs for a while and keep building backlinks.

Over time it will bump you up.

Why do people blame tools for these type of things when this is a common phenomenon known as the dance? Please do your research.

I think your Squidoo's will come back stronger than ever. I did something similar with an Ezine of mine. Actually, I put out about 2.5k links over three days for it.

It dropped initially from about 14 to 40 but now it is climbing back slowly sitting at 11. It will take you 2-3 weeks before things settle and you do not see wild fluctuations.

My advice would be, do not check your SERP ranking again and again now that you have already backlined them. Give it 2-3 weeks to stabilize and most probably you will be happy at the end of that period.

Also. it depends on what sort of links you got from scrapebox. If you scraped for high pr pages and left junk comments in them, they probably got removed and that is why your ranking is fluctuating. If you are doing a lot of comments, I think you should try to do it in such a way that a lot of your comments stick. You can do that by either finding blogs that do not seem moderated but also at the same time are not spammed to death. Do manual commenting for the high PR pages.

    Cheers

did you ping all your comments that posted successfully? Sometimes I'll get dropped for a bit if I ping them. You can counter it by letting google find them slowly.
