And here I thought I just really sucked at 'holdem...

Be sure to follow the link to the NY Times article at the bottom.

    Here's a partial quote:

"So the poker detectives turned their attention to this observer. They traced the observer's IP address and account name to the same set of servers that host Absolute Poker, and also, apparently, to a particular individual named Scott Tom, who seems to be a part-owner of Absolute Poker! If all of this is correct, it shows exactly how the cheating would have transpired: an insider at the Web site had real-time access to all of the hole cards (it is not hard to believe that this capability would exist) and was relaying this information to an outside accomplice."

    What a prick (if true).

I guess the only possible problem is that the guy doens't live in the US, or at least that's what I've read. I read he lives in Chile... Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

PS - congrats on the Super Moderator status, Ruck.

Funny I primarily only play & promote at Absolute Poker, and even though it seemed like sometimes things were fishy, it really didn't matter since I've never really lost money playing poker online.

Honestly there are a lot of really bad poker players that lose quite a bit of money because they don't understand how to play the game. They play almost every hand, especially if they have an Ace dealt to them. Sure they get lucky every now and then and win some money or maybe even a tournament or two but in the end they are all losers. These are the ones that bitch that online poker is rigged, and quite honestly wouldn't last very long in a real poker room.

Knowing the hole cards could just let them out bet preflop and steal the blinds. If he got called he'd still had to hit the rest of the cards to be a winner.

Even right now they still have over 18k players on the tables so it doesn't seem to be effecting their business.

I don't think that would be a problem, seeing as how he knew everyone's cards throughout the entire hand. Sure, he wouldn't win EVERY hand; Like you said, people get lucky (Damn river cards), and noobs go ALL IN on a whim and a gut feeling. But being able to see his opponents' cards DRASTICALLY increased his chances of winning, no matter what stage of the hand. Put that kind of anvantage into the hands of an advanced poker player that knows his ODDS, and you've got a dangerous combination.

If he did cheat, he needs to get fired at the very least. If he lives in the USA, he could be looking at possible prison time. In the long run, I don't think AP will get hurt too much if they condemn what that guy did and crucify him.
