What I'm surprised is how big the hit was and how consecutive were the takedowns.

I imagined it would be 1 network a month but at this rate, it seems to me that a big chunk of all networks are taken down in a matter of 1-2 weeks.

blog networks are being taken out and i believe they are being taken out manually...

i don't think an algorithm could not take them out so surgically...this is manually precision and the biggest players are getting hit first...

    I will give you that.

The hits are definitely happening faster than I thought, but I mean the inevitability of this was written on the wall.

Sure private networks that are actually "PRIVATE" will still probably work, but I'm just surprised at how many people are blindsided by all this.

Soooooo you mean the network you and hundreds of people were buying paid links from and blatantly talking about on some of the largest IM forums got de-indexed by Google???????

Its actually surprising that it wasn't taken down sooner. That is a blatant selling of links, which is a no-no. Its one thing to build links... its another to buy them.

exactly - google or cutt never said that link building is bad. They said that link buying is bad. Numbers game do matter but in the long run it's always better to create links yourself rather than those shitty blog networks.

No of course it is not suprising, they advertised in masses and had like 20k domains within the network each with say 100 posts each with 3 links so they spewed 6 million links on the interweb (and that was just ALN!)!!

Also I am not suprised that it has happened in such volume, just look at the end of last year when a few homepage backlink networks were hit and it caused a few ripples but that is about it. So a massive hit and most people are staying well clear of any network in case. With everyone running scared I picture all the G employees sitting in a massive cinema type thing watching it all happening and having a giggle to themselves.

Of course this is having a massive impact but mainly to people who relied on them too heavily so let it be a lesson to you if you fall into this category.

Right, off to build dome more links!!

Reading around here, I've become inspired to start my own little network actually. I have exaughsted my funds as of late (heh...) but I'm getting a small injection of sweet cash so I'll have to use my excess domains, get ahold of some of my own and start working on it.

Any huge current event in seo is going to have mass hysteria, especially a Panda rollout. Can you guess what the next Panda update is going to hit?

Surprised? No, nothing is new....this industry is based on strategic evolution. Failure and fail safes are apart of every good SEO business plan. There are no real road blocks, just speed bumps and detours.

There are already a lot of solutions and even a few "fixes" out of the mouths and into the ears of PR Network owners. For obvious reasons it is staying that way and we are protecting this information but I assure you, the sky is not falling....it just rained on the parade.

But like any storm, this one has come and gone, the clouds have already cleared and the sun is starting to shine again.

I saw the effectiveness of most blog networks drop off a few months ago. There are some sites they still work for but not many.

Are you high? Do you expect me to believe something that a person who had all his networks sites on one sever has to say. Bro STFU, you have no idea wtf you are talking about.

And shared, unique networks fall in where?
Google's guidelines on donation only networks + unique posts strike me as a messy thing. I'm sure it won't stop google from going after those either, but they're certainly not "against the rules".

The results now, at least on the 100 or so high end keywords I monitor, are way way worse than pre-Feb
