So, one of my family members came home this evening with a booklet in there pile of candy. It was a mini catalog trying to sell pottery. Has anyone tried to sell things to trick or treaters?

if you have an arcade or online game website or any website appealling to very young audiences you could give them a little flyer or card with their candy i.e. play 20 free games at blahblaharcarde.net

You can't really effectively sell anything to little kids especially with the limited interactions you have with them. You could bring in some nice traffic though because they will show their friend etc.

    This is hilarious.

To go with the flyer idea - create a site that sells Halloween costumes for kids. Who knows? Maybe mom and dad will use it next year.

What about handing out something Christmas related? Like selling Christmas decorations, etc.

Even better, have custom wrappers printed in with your url from a place like candywarehouse.com/customcandy.html and have someone go door to door selling them dirt cheap as Halloween candy and give them to all your friends and family to hand out lol.

Great idea, and to twist this idea a little bit, the flyer could say, "Attention, Mom and Dad!" with a little pre-selling and show a url that goes to your CPA affliate link for DentalPlans.com or some other pre-paid dental plan (which usually pay $30 - $50 per sale).

You could also scale this up by having some trusted friends and relatives that don't live in your neighborhood hand out flyers to their trick or treaters as well.

Actually, I remember a thread from last year with this tactic being discussed. If a person targets the right offer and lives in a high volume area for trick or treaters it could do extremely well. Depending on the kids ages, many have PC's (and may or may not have parents that rummage through their candy after Halloween) so you could target any of the gaming or kid related niches with CPA.
