So I was wondering if someone could shed some light on the legality of an idea I have.

Purchase those tiny envelopes, hand write "Important" on the front. Then put a slip of paper inside that say something to the effect of

"Hello neighbor. Your trash has all the info a thief needs to steal you identity. Consider protecting you and your family from identity theft. Stop the thieves before they can ruin your financial life by visiting (website)."

And tape the envelope to the trashcan on trash day.

    Would this be considered legal?

edit:can a mod move this to offline marketing

    Yeah, in the US.

If it's done right and made to look like a concerned neighbor writing a note I don't think it would be thrown away by everyone. I haven't come across any hand written spam packaged in an envelope.

Too expensive. I could think of a couple other ways to go including simple flyers, but probably the cheapest would be to create a shorter message, and put it on a business card.

    Put that anywhere, and everywhere.
