My wife and I own a small family retail in the comic and games niche. I'm looking for ideas for marketing our business to our community. Any advice you guys can offer would be great!

Look at the forum, you'll find plenty explanations of the above.

A family business in the gaming / comic niche doesn't compute in my mind for a Marketing Approach.
I mean, it isn't bad or whatsoever, but i don't think it is going to be your edge here.

However, creating a community of collectors or gamers relying on family values could be a great online approach on the top of your online store if you have one.

On a practical level, as mentionned already social networks, forum posting and SEO are the ways to go

Events for sure, game and anything nerd does great with gatherings. Try to do a weekly contest of some sort, or comic book signing.

You sell comic books and video games at your store?

Aside from the above good suggestions, why not set up tables at some of the busy flea markets in your area. You'll get a ton of traffic for about a 20 dollar bill and much of that traffic is families meaning you'll have a good chunk of your demographic walking past your tables.

Set up a nice display with a backdrop, have some of the popular products on display, have a cheap giveaway that people can redeem at your store and see what you get. Your cost is negligible for that and you may end up with a whole new crowd that starts coming in to your business over and over again.

I appreciate the feedback guys. We are doing online marketing with ebay and some other methods too, but I am looking to up the traffic in our brick and mortar business. I will give some of these a try. I think anything that does outreach and then brings people together is key.

Make your presence in social media really strong, then get on to different offline avenues like garage sales, flea markets, school events, anything you can tap into so that you'd be even more visible.

Be sure you're signed up for Google Business and all social media channels. Pinterest is worth looking into for your niche.

The aforementioned idea of hosting a game night is excellent, as well as the idea to get involved with local school clubs! Additionally, hopefully you're already doing this, but if there are any related events in the area, make sure you're attending and getting your name out there. You might check sites like meetup.com to see if there are any local events you aren't aware of. Best of luck!
