This thread is for Market Samurai users.
Do you guys follow the backlink information of Majestic SEO or Yahoo Site Explorer?

Majestic SEO often reports 10 times the number that Yahoo Site Explorer reports for a page.

E.g. Majestic SEO says 260 backlinks and Yahoo Site Explorer says 31.

What do you do in this case?

Majestic SEO has more accurate data. I use only majestic seo in Market Samura.

I tend to trust the yahoo se over majestic, i guess the only true metric is the directional one though i.e. are they going up or down

I've only been following the YSE so far..probably because it makes it seem easier than it really is. Time to face reality..

Where in MS can you see if the backlink numbers are going up or down?
Somewhere in the Competition Module I guess?

Yahoo will give the links with better quality but majestic have a large index database.

I do have a tendency to like the Yahoo Site Explorer backlinks list probably just because it's what I'm used to using.

As mentioned above, one thing that these provide is a consistent number to know whether links have gone up or down.

Majestic SEO has an option to see historical or in the last 30 day links. You'll often find the 30 day links closer in line with the Yahoo Site Explorer number. For comprehensive data Majestic SEO definitely provides the most information there. You can also see if there were any offsite linking pushes done at a specific time by looking at the Majestic SEO graphs in 30 day or historical.

I always use YSE. It's the one I've heard/read the most about when reading/watching different various SEO guides and find it to be pretty popular.

Sorry for this little bump, I've noticed why Majestic SEO backlinks are much higher because Majestic SEO counts the NoFollow backlinks where SiteExplorer only counts the do follow links if I'm correct.

Undoubtedly my favourite is Yahoo Explorer. It is well known for it's accurate results. Majestic SEO is also good but not so good as YSE.

YSE also counts no follow links ;) nofollow is only for Google, other search engines ignore it.

YSE for sure. They filter some spammy links so I think Google must be also filtering some of them xD

Are there any other tools out there like Majestic or YSE? Any software that is a flat fee?

Yahoo's own backlinks are probably those which counts on rankings. But evidently Majestico is more precise on counting and indexing? links. I tend to think them relatively. Rank Tracker will show chart and data how PR and links move over the time. What matters the most is which direction links total number run. You can see this movement on both Y & M, just on different scales.
