It does - when you analyse competition it shows you all the backlinks, yahoo, dmoz, page rank, domain age and so on of all your competitors.

So in other words if I have the same stats as they do or more, IE More backlinks etc etc does it then follow that I rank as well or better.

Not always. A lot of things come into account when search engines rank websites. I had a website with 1000 more higher PR backlinks than my competitors on an aged domain and still was ranking below a brand new spam site. Don't competitor data as the word. Do your own thing and you should see results.

There are a lot of other factors that go into SERP position.. ie: domain age, number of inbound anchor text links, etc.

But yes, stealing their footprint is a great start.

No. it does not show every backlink and nor does it count them all either and it is limited to 1k as far as displaying backlinks is concerned, just like YSE. Just copying what you can see another site has done using market samurai does not mean you will outrank it

I think market samurai is a Adobe Air program correct? If so it should be able to be used on a Mac.

You're going about it all wrong. Not only will MS not give you everything that the search engines see, but it's accuracy isn't spot on in other areas as well. The Competition Analysis should only be used as a way of judging weather you can break into that market and be successful or not. If you don't think you can top the amount of QUALITY backlinks, BLEGs, on-page SEO, and all the other components involved, then you shouldn't try until you're more confident at a later date.

Many sites are seen as "super authority" sites in the SERPs. Doesn't matter what you do, these pages are essentially untouchable. It's not all numbers :p There's a lot more going on under the hood.

    I don't get it ...

    If I am a PR4 and he is a PR3
If I have millions more traffic.
And brilliant backlinks more than him..
How has he suddenly beat me in the serps for a keyword not in his title.

Granted his pages are littered with keyword articles, oooh how to be a keyword, keyword rates, keyword facilities.. advice about keyword etc etc - and this I can only assume is what is putting him ahead - page content and relevance only !? IE almost like one of those horrific sales pages.

I also note he has a link wheel in place other URLS with the keyword in the title refer to his site..

Is there not a google type code you can enter into the field to see the sites that reference that URL? That could help formulate a footprint? And I can work on sites that he is on also?

He must be all over the place with joy as he has beaten everyone out of knowhere the URL is OLD 7 years but this business has been knowhere till now.

    ???

PR hasn't really got anything to do with your rankings don't bother looking at that. Depending on the keyword you are targeting it could be many things. If it is a competitive keyword it may be offsite seo that is determining this, if its a mickey mouse keyword with half the sites poorly optimized it might be onsite seo.. Sometimes looking at backlinks is like looking at an iceberg..you only see the top..

If someone doesn't want you to see what they are doing they will go out of their way to hide them and just about everything else... He could be driving them (backlinks) with 301 redirects that have a load of backlinks going to them, or he could be driving all his backlinks via the linkwheel and then to the site.

You already said he has a linkwheel so I would look at the backlinks going to that too.. Maybe he is hammering the crap out of the linkwheels with backlinks. Do not just look at direct links to the site..That is just a starting point.

If you are sure your onsite site is good ..and from what you said about his keywords it sounds like his site is well optimized and yours isn't. If you are not sure how well your site is optimized download IBP from here.. it will give you an idea ,but do not take everything in that at face value..

The other thing is market samurai will only show you the 1st 1k backlinks... use something else like a copy of seospyglass from here to look at his backlinks and anchor text if he has more than 1k backlinks...then look at yours..you might find your backlinks are not as good as you first thought. That still may not show everything but its far better than market samurai.Maybe your backlinks are all from low pr sites or from just a handful of sites, with anchor text all over the place.. Don't just think I have more backlinks than him... look at what he is doing a bit more closely.

    Brilliant...
Is there not a google code I can type to see who references him...
I am pretty sure he is not an SEO expert but - he may well be..

When you don't know what it is, what about asking good old Google for this and check their website? Market Samurai allows you to get detailed stats about keywords and you competitors. It shows you where it is worth to invest time and optimize keywords..
