This has been my 6th time giving a reconsideration request. Originally I got a "partial match" message.

    Manual Actions
Partial matches Some manual actions apply to specific pages, sections, or links

Unnatural links to your site?impacts links
So What I did was got a list of all bad links. Then I submitted it via disavow. For each link I stated that i tried to contact the website at X date and got no reply. I did this for each link in the list with various dates.

Then I put in a reconsideration request. This is my 6th request now. Each time they give 2 samples of links that they say are bad. Now they are giving me legit links and saying they are bad. These links are on peoples websites that are affiliated with my site. For example my site is a record label site and my producers link to me since I am their record label.

I still get 500+ visits a day on this site but it was 1000+ before this partial match bullshit. This time I replied that the two samples they gave are employees of mine and asked how are they against the TOS for being a link.

I think more and more that the best thing for long term projects is to have 0 links, because you never know what will they see as natural link

I too would go with the disavow everything and see what happens. Not like you have much to lose.

I just disavowed 2000 links from one of my sites(not manually penalised). That felt like pissing my money down the drain but you have to do what you have to do.

disavow and reconsider are two separate things.

I havent gotten a reply from the disavow request yet. All the reconsider requests usually reply within 7 days.

    right.

Disavowing links is a simple process if you don't need a reconsider. Just send in the list.
Once you have had an ULN from Google, you need to jump through hoops of fire to get them to accept any list you hand in

PS your producers site might well be the issue. Just ask them to remove the link of make it nofollow

You will never get a reply for using the disavow tool, at least I am not familiar with anyone here that has stated you get a reply.

Sometimes, I think Google just wants to make more work for SEO companies so that they can focus less on new sites and more on old sites :). It does seem like a good way to slow the SEO process down a bit!

I'm on my second reconsideration request as my site was hit with a manual penalty in February of 2011 and I always thought it was an algorithmic penalty b/c it happened around the same time as Panda 3.3. At this point, I believe I probably have manual penalties and algorithmic penalties. Just to mention, I only found out I had a manual penalty when google started telling us through our GWT accounts a while back.

In my second reconsideration request I tried to be very thorough and tell them everything that was done, but this guide (http://moz.com/blog/ultimate-guide-t...enalty-removal) is ridiculous. In all truth, I stopped link building b/c its just too dangerous to do on a money site that has a brand. If your doing churn and burn, then who gives a fuck, but if you have created a brand its not the smart thing to do nowadays. And even these so called "white-hat" seo's are going to be fucked one day b/c google can move the goal posts to wherever they want them to be so one day you might be okay and then the next no.

There are a few good points in that guide that I could add to my next reconsideration request if necessary, which seems more likely after seeing what these people have to do to get the manual penalty removed. The one thing that just does not scale for me to is to contact each and every webmaster to try and get the links removed. And you have document that you are doing this, wtf, no fucking way...

I would say almost 80-90% of my links have been lost through attrition in my GWT account so my list of links is pretty small in comparison to the time I was heavy into link building.

Right now I am going through a whole redesign of my website so if those money pages of mine that have a penalty are still penalized at the time of completion, I am probably just going to change the urls of those money pages and start those over. I don't really care about my home page ranking for a select few keywords (don't get me wrong, I would love it, but I just don't see it happening unless I juice the goose) so the manual penalty on my home page would remain, but again not a big deal there.
