hi, im going to make a fitness website, and it will sell 1 year memberships for $20~

all the workout information is online based, behind member only pages.

I am only planning to gather locally or should i get globally?

should i target local keywords first then global?

How local are you planning on going? Are you talking local to a city or country? Fitness seems to be a competitive niche so it's probably best to target easier keywords, long tail keywords first: "Best fitness tips in <city>". You could have a long list of local keywords that you rank for. Eventually, you can take this list and generic a more authoritative page that tries to rank for Best Fitness Tips, then Fitness Tips. Essentially what you would do is build a silo structure from the bottom up.

    Fitness Tips

    • Best Fitness Tips
      • Best fitness tips in <city 1>
      • Best fitness tips in <city 2>
      • Best fitness tips in <city 3>

    Fitness Workouts
    • 30 Second Workouts
    • 8 Minute Abs

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

what if all of the information is only avaliable to to premuim members? how do i get SE traffic for that kind of website? only pages avaliable are like videos.. and reasons why to join, recommendations, current members etc

all the HARD information will be locked for members only

so i dont know how to do SEO for this!

You could create pages with snippets of your locked pages with a read more button that brings them to a sign-up page. Or, you could create a blog section that is public, and post articles and information that can sell your site, to entice members to join. For instance, Post: "How to get ripped Abs" can talk about a fitness program that gets you ripped abs, quickly. You don't reveal the method but build up interest, and in this Post you can have something like, "Become a Member to View Ab Workout Video" or something like that.

I also thought there was a way to allow search engine bots access to member sections, the same way when you do a search and the result is a forum thread but in order to view it you have to be a member. I'm not sure how effective this is at stopping people from pretending to be a bot and access your site.
