First of all, let me take a second and introduce myself. I am new to the forum, long time lurker, but new member. I have been doing internet marketing off and on for about 10 years now. I have made many purchases of services offered here on the forum, but I know I have not contributed anything valuable, so here is a mini success story and a promise to add more value to the forum.

I live in a town on the coast, not going into detail about location as this can work anywhere. About a month ago I went to town looking for a vapor store for my electronic cigarette. I had done a search online and could not find anything, but I knew I had seen a store in town, and after driving through town I actually found 3 stores. One of the stores that I found was very new so I dropped in.

After being in the store for about 20 minutes trying different flavors and talking with the two guys that owned the store, I brought up the question of why they didn't have a website. Their reply was "we don't know how to set it up, and don't really have time". I then went into explaining how simple it was to set up a website for them and explained to them that they could easily do the work on it after it was set up including adding new products etc.

I worked out a deal with them for exchange of goods and a small fee. I also explained that they would have to pay for hosting, which will be through me and will be a monthly payment.

Within 1 hour I had a signed contract to build them a website and for them to purchase hosting from me on a monthly basis (at a pretty fair price).

So, the moral of this story, if you can not find a website for a local business but find the local business and you can actually explain to them how it would be beneficial to them to have a local website that people can find when they search, you are on your way to a sale.

I know this method is old, I have used it before, but hopefully it will help some new IMers get started on their journey.

Side note - If you are in the place of business because you were really looking for something you needed or wanted, remember you can always barter for your services. Payment does not have to be in CASH though that is best.

    Good Luck.

Congrats on your success here. I like reading stories like this because it reiterates that stuff like this can be done.

Thank you. It does really go to show that this kind of stuff can be done. I know that BHW is a world wide thing and I would not presume to think that this can be done everywhere, but I do know that if you live in america there are millions of businesses with no website and no understanding of how important an online presence could be to their business. If you can just help them to understand then you are ahead of the game.

It was only one website, which wasn't the point, but if you think about it as a numbers game then the possibilities are endless. A long time ago, when I first found this website I read "if you can make a dollar you can make a million". All you have to do is scale it up.

Say that with one customer you are making $5.00 per month with hosting their website. Your monthly bills are $3,500.00 (not assuming I know what your bills are, just picking a number), if you take $3,500.00 and divide by $5.00 = 700 websites hosted. So if you could find 700 local businesses needing you to build them a website and you could sell them on hosting then you would be making your $3,500.00 per month. I know 700 seems like a lot of websites to host, but truly how many local businesses are there in the US of A? It is all just a numbers game.

I guess I started ranting their, but I just want to see people succeed and quit stepping on their own feet.
