I am seriously considering making my own blog network for the niche I am in. Would it be smart to make them all autoblogs to populate them or is this a bad idea?

Well, why not? Autoblogs haves the power to get some organic visitors to them and search engines should consider them more valuable then a "quallity" web 2.0 with no traffic on it.

Depends on your long term goals...to me, if you're going to spend the time and effort to set it all up, get unique content. Otherwise, it could be a short sighted goal with dupe content issues.

Autoblogs would be the fastest way to accomplish it, once you get some revenue you can add unique content to the blog network to make it more powerful

Rather than pure autoblogging, I've had better luck with semi-autoblogging. For example, where I used to run a straight product feed into a blog, now I aggregate a few products into draft posts and manually edit them before they're posted, it takes me about 10 minutes to set 30 posts to drip over 30 days and no crap will get posted that would flunk a manual review by google.

I write my own plugins but I'm sure something like WP-Robot would work.
