Hey All,

Is it possible to get away with making a website that makes it easy for visitors to watch Episodes of a TV Show online free? or will you get sued or asked to take it down pretty much right away, or at least as soon as you start getting good traffic?

I know there are a lot of sites out there that claim to offer to watch free episodes online, but they are all usually a pain in the ass in order to watch the video or many times it's just BS.

I would like to make a site that makes it easy for visitors to watch the episodes with just subtle advertisements here and there, but i feel like you'd get sued or something fairly quickly.

Thanks in advance guys.

I think most of those sites are located on domains registered & servers located in countries within Asia which don't respond to DMCA requests. If the content owner can track you down, you'll probably get sued. It's not worth it IMO.

There is a reason most of these sites are a pain in the ass to watch from.

Would be cool to hear from someone who actually has tried something similar. Successful or not successful? Sued or not sued? lol

Use common sense. So many big sites that get popular get shut down. And if they can find you, they'll sue you. You aren't exactly going up against a mom&pop shop when you compete with FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, HBO, etc. They have expensive lawyers on retainer that will bury you.

IDK, for example I set up my own site redirecting my videos to www.housemdvideos.com. This guy is making bills from just uploading House episodes, and he gets HEAVY traffic and never been shut down. It's all about being smart and getting disclaimers in to avoid lawsuits. Make sure nothing's hosted on your own server.

You'll have a better time just uploading videos to Filesonic or some other host that pays per 1000 downloads (or per download). Just post your links of forums that accept pirated content.

I've ran a TV website in the past. It's a risky game because you can spend months getting the traffic up just to have it all taken away.

Look for a more stable alt.

Yeah I played around with this a bit. Had one site focussed on a tv show that made over 1000 dollars in 3 days, but then got shut down. I've made a few more similar since, but none seem to do nearly as well and they all eventually get shut down, which is rather frustrating.

A few years ago I had a much easier time with this niche. Not sure if I'd recommend going into it unless you had a really solid monetization method. You can often get a lot of traffic to sites like this, but they aren't visitors interested in spending money for the most part.

If you are in the USA they will pressure your internet provider to terminate your service. Cox cable and others are also losing revenue when you have a pirate video site, so they are quick to enforce.

This could be worth it for sporting events. Olympics is gonna be saturated before you can say 'Usain Bolt' so forget that. But I'm talking UEFA Champions League, Euro 2012 etc...big bucks to stream those games, literally millions of cheapos

use offshore anonymous hosting for your website.

don't host any video files yourself. embed the videos using videosharing sites like videobb, putlocker, etc..

look how much traffic sites like 1channel and solarmovie are getting.
