If you've ever been to a local store and have seen a "Red*box" movie rental station, you'll know its the best thing in the world to be able to rent a DVD for $1 a night.

In either case, I started thinking whether it would be a good idea to have some VistaPrint business cards made to distribute.

So here's a quick method that can be summed up in 5 steps.

1. Go and purchase a domain name and set it up to redirect to a affiliate link such as a site to purchase DVD's and movies and such.
2. Go to VistaPrint.com and have some business cards made. Once completed, wait for them to arrive.
3. Now go to a Red*box and rent some DVD's and keep them for a night.
4. Put your business cards inside the case and return the DVD to the Red*box
5. Let people rent the DVD's, see the business card and go to your site.

Now I haven't tried it and am not sure if I will since I have lots of other projects. However, it could work for you. This could be the next best viral marketing technique.

Good luck and feel free to add your input.

I've thought about this a lot also, as I rent about 10 to 15 redbox movies a month sometimes. Maybe not exactly what you said, but using redbox in general. I don't know about the conversion rate though. If you put a business card in even 100 dvd's a month, you would have to have a killer conversion rate to even come close to breaking even. Out of those 100 only a handful would actually check out the website, etc. I just don't think the numbers are there. Also, I don't think it would be long before redbox caught on and then you could be in some trouble for doing that. I imagine its illegal in one way or another.

^^ It might be illegal, not sure though so I'll tell everyone, if you perform this, do it at your own risk. Its an idea and I'm not insisting anyone to do it. Just an idea...

Yeah, well see, its not just limited to online rental companies. For instance, it could be near a college campus. You can provide education lead sites to those people. The possibilities are unlimited to say the least, its just about implementing a solid plan :)

I agree with this. You would have to have one great product. How about this idea instead. Get on the waiting list at your local library for all books that are popular. Stick your business card in those. That is free. You can also just go to the library and stick it in other popular books that do not have a waiting list.

^^ Nice, that was the general idea of this concept was for people to use it and come up with other useful ideas. The fact that many of the Redbox DVD's to the best of my knowledge don't stay in one machine and are constantly moved intrigued me. However, I'm sure they'd see the business card before moving the DVD's and remove it anyway.

I gave you "Thanks" for that idea, that's something I might try and see what will happen...

BlockBusters in the UK check their DVD's when they come back to them so they would probably remove the card unfortunately, nice idea though.

Actually, we're talking about Redbox (search Google for it.) Its a machine that is placed at retail stores and you can rent DVD's from it using your debit card. Then when your done, return it to ANY Redbox location. :) And its only $1 a night.

Nice idea, but you'll have to find another (paid) source for business cards.
VistaPrint is a scam :)

VistaPrint a scam??? I have used them 3 times before and have been fine.

Well, I based my opinion on my personal experience (waiting for 4-5 months already) and some google searches.

For example, this page :

I would love to see my opinion change though :)

vistaprint does work. The cheapest way is to print your own business cards yourself. If you have a J O B, you can print them at work and save the ink.

Let me know how the library cards go. I have a friend that use to do it and they got some leads for sales. It was not web related though.

^^ I'll definitely do that.

I just ordered from VP the other day, will wait and see what happens. :)

A lot of libraries have a DVD section too. Why not put them in there as well?

Just print out a sheet of business card sized flyers on your computer printer and print them out and cut them up. It's a lot faster and probably cheaper than the VP shipping charge. You can also change offers immediately, or stuff a couple in each one.

I use torrents for my movies. But that's a good idea

thanks. I will try something like that. I can probably make that method better

it sounds similar to people who go to the bookstore and add their cards in niche books.

Thats a Interesting idea. Im not fure if they would be enough money to make it worth wile.
