This has fairly quick setup time, and the work is minimal. This method works best in areas with a decent amount of people around you.

You are going to be setting up a pay-per-use wifi system in just 10-20 minutes, and the best thing is you don't have to worry about a merchant account or taking payments.

    You will need:

A high speed internet connection. DSL, cable, mobile 3g.

    A compatible router

The Linksys WRT54GL is a good one to use.

Now just setup your router here http://www.hotspotsystem.com

There are no setup fees and they only take 20%-30% of the total take. You choose your packages and their prices. They start out by taking 30%. If you make over $1000 and under $2000 they take 25%. If you make over $2000 they take 20%. Not bad...

Imagine the uses. Get a mobile 3G connection and take it anywhere people have their computers. Setup networks all over your city in businesses where you've worked out deals with the owner. Setup networks at your friends places and give them a cut. With a little bit of work and some brain power you should be able to turn a profit.

Please use this thread to discuss ideas on promoting or establishing your network. Good luck, and just do it. What do you have to lose?

Nice method. But if you connect to a hotspot and it asked you for your CC would you put it in? I wouldn't.

It all depends. The order page looks real good and very professional. You can setup 24 hour packages even...

Think about it like this. Many people would have to pay around $50 or more for internet, or if a network like this is around they can pay $20-$30 a month. I do agree, some people probably wouldn't.

Either way you are nothing but a router(until you take it down) to try this.

I think this is a great idea. It could probably be monetized in a number of ways.

What about charging businesses to simply set-up the system, letting them keep all future profits. Especially in this economy, I'm sure smart businesses would jump on the opportunity to bring in extra revenue. Of course, a split and no set-up fee to the business would probably work well also.

I realize the OP meant setting up in any area for random traffic, but if a restaurant had a "Wi-Fi available Here" sign and customers landed on that payment page, I don't think people would have a problem putting in their CC info.

That is another good idea, but you'll notice what I meant was exactly what you said. There are many ways to make money with this. Just have to be creative...

Too many things going on at once, sorry if I came off wrongly.

IDK, I've been thinking about this since I read your post. I could really use some cash and I'm thinking about cold-calling businesses and trying to sell set-up for $300. The more I think about it, I probably already have some clients who would jump on the idea of making some easy, extra cash. From my experience in calling on local businesses I think I could make some quick sales.

Anyways, great idea and thank you so much for sharing!

    Thanks given!

How will you work out your connection? They will have to have internet or set it up. Make sure you give them your affiliate link to a comcast offer if they don't...

I think a number of businesses have internet access, at least from ones I've dealt with. That's usually where it stops. You could always offer to pay for the connection for something like a 80/20 split. IDK, wouldn't really get too hung on this issue.
