Well.......this idea came to me while I was decorating my room today :)

Im not sure if you know the "Get anything for free" method. Pretending to be a company, and then calling up a wholesaler in China or whatever, say your intrested in 10,000 of stock whatever and can they send you a free sample to test. bla bla bla. Well, back in the day, it was sold everywhere and was all over ebay!

Well........I was inspired by .......I cant remember who it was....but a post about the bank and getting his charge back -back.

So what you do is.

Set up a website. Wholesalereview.com or something.

Make it look all professional.

Then call up a bunch of places and say something like..

Im the manager of site wholesalereview.com and your company has been voted by our readers to be reviewed next. We have over 500,000 uniques a month and a current mailing list of 20,000 distributers..from small buisness's to ebay powersellers.

We would like to do a review on your company, service and product etc.

To feature on our site with full page review and have it also sent out to out mailing list. Please send us ($xxx ?) or (item X) f or free.

If you do not wish to take part you will be put onto our "unsure" (cant think of a better word right now! haha) list and people will be diverted to another company.

Then if they do go through, make up some bull review praising them. So maybe you'll get another free item down when you come to do a review on the latest ???

Before you tell them your site. make up some reviews for other companys (real) so it looks legit etc.

I have only just thought of this but I dont see why it wouldnt work :p

Not a bad idea, but a word of caution: Threatening negative action to a company for not giving you money or a review item is illegal (it is a form of extortion), so you really want the negative to be the perception of lost revenue for not participating in the review process.
 
I don't think that a variation at this stage is needed. So this is what ill be doing:
1. Get a domain for some niche review site. For instance jacket or any other niche. Make a good keyword research and seo so the website has some value and some traffic after i use your idea.
2. Make a good template message for contacting dealers in that niche so they give me a product for a review
3. Send them the messages and get some free stuff
4. If the free stuff fails i can always sell the website and get some $$

Hmmmm... what this has to do with BH SEO? and personally, I think it's unethical, even in this place.

Just sharing my thoughts.

Yeh your right. I wasnt thinking of negative things I just didnt really know what else to say. But you got it perfect. Lost revenue etc.

Fraud? Hmm.....after all you are giving them a review on your site which is what you say you are going to do?

It was only something I quickly came up with. Thought id let you all know really.
 
I did this a few years back all the time using an ebay business I have, I haven't done this for over a year now. Its not as easy as it sounds. They would only send me products once I had powerseller status etc, my feedback ratings, they even checked my company background - as in if its registered etc. So make sure you have a company. I also had to build up my reputation with them. Then they sent me small stuff like table mats, cups, etc. Then as I sold and sold I gradually moved onto more valuable stuff such as games, phones and electronics (which is what we all want).

You can also do this method with manufacturers aswell as wholesellers.

They will not send you stuff straight away. Plus they will chase you up and ask you about the products when you have sold them. If your going to continue selling them. If not then why not. Sometimes if they send you free expensive stuff you sometimes have to sign an agreement to order and sell X amount. You have to build a reputation. If you can stick it out and work at it then it deffo pays off.
 
Not to get off topic but this reminds me of something kinda funny,

I am a member of a veterans organization and I solicite donations for veterans causes. Anyhow, last year I got a big donation pledge from a well known company in the amount of 20,000.

Yes, then sent me 20,000 ladies razors. I am still trying to give the darn things away.

Oh well, made some smooth legs for some , now back to topic......................
 
I agree that is unethical, and i won't be using the extortion technique he posted. That's way off and it imho won't work with the merchant providers. But when you look at closely it's not a bad idea for a wh site
 
i think the method is class but as patrat says you need reputation.....
it is possible but i think you would have to target smalltime wholesalers who dont have much of an idea at all :P looolz

also having a featured product section on the site and saying they will appear there if there product is good etc which increases clicks etc....

good method in general just needs a few tweaks here and there :)
