When I said video, I didn't mean a free animoto clip that I fell asleep to instantaneously.
It's a start, but you're heading in the wrong direction.
Why would anyone watch more than 10 seconds of that? Time is money, and nobody serious about their business is going to watch a fluffy lot of pictures moving around slowly.
Treat your business as a business, and get something professionally made or don't have anything at all.

I hear ya'. I'm going to make one squeeze page with the vid and one without and split test.
You have a point but, I remember when Michael Rasmussen came out with some stupid IM product a few months ago, all his promotion consisted of was a Camastia video - black background, white words, and him talking for like 45 minutes. I'm assuming that it did well since practically every other IM "guru" had the exact same style of video out for their products in the weeks that followed. It was about as homemade as you could possibly get.
And isn't that like saying "Time is money. Why would people watch your silly little toilet paper/trash bag/Advil/Kia etc. commercials?" I've actually had people yell at me because I muted the commercials and they wanted to watch them! I don't get it, but I'd bet 95% of people just sit there glassy-eyed, staring at a tampon advertisement. I mean, why does anyone do anything? It's all just theoretical unless you test it out. Anyway, the don't HAVE to watch the video to opt-in.
The reason behind our vastly opposing ideologies is becoming obvious to me. I'm a creative person looking at it from a completely different angle than (you) a hard core business person would. Sometimes thinking outside the box is effective and sometimes it's an utter failure. Only testing and time will tell.
I'll post both the squeeze page with the sleep inducing video and the one without it when the new site is complete.

Alright - squeeze page done - sales page done - will make the form the sales page leads to in the morning. I think my eyeballs are bleeding... You can see the sales page if you opt-in to the squeeze page HERE. The new URL is freewebsitekc.com. Well, no one has received payment yet because no one has made a sale. No one has really even sent any traffic so it's impossible to test anything out.
We, however, are doing GREAT! ALL of our sales are coming from making direct calls to specific types of businesses. We're using the 'Consultative Selling' technique they discuss in Local Business Money Machine - a VERY in depth course about selling SEO and website services to local businesses. It's a $1,000 course but you can find it free on BHW by using the search feature.
Also, the Animoto video and our website, that was so painfully critiqued, are going over very well! Remember, half of these small business owners think they ALREADY have a website because they are listed in YellowPages.com or because they have an email address. Many have NEVER heard of PayPal! We take a lot of what we know for granted, but most small business owners are pretty low tech. This isn't some theory, this is advice straight from the trenches. We have half a dozen meetings set up for next week alone to discuss both website design and SEO services, all from just calling people we find advertising in the phone book without websites listed.
So, if you're thinking about becoming an affiliate for us or starting your own web design and SEO consulting business, stop reading and take action. It works if you're willing to get your hands dirty and actually do the work!

I agree with everything you said about that crappy sales page. I was never happy with it either but I didn't have time to revise it. I especially liked the way you expressed:

No.
That was just a sales page that I didn't originally have on the website but, the affiliates thought that we needed a "hard sell" tactic. I just took it off completely because from my experience this week, this is not that kind of offer and that whole approach is not my style. It's CHEESY and fake as you pointed out.
The approach that IS working to promote this offer is a grass roots, local selling campaign where most of the explaining is done in person or over the phone. Fortunately, this kind of marketing is working really well! Maybe this whole thing was never meant to be sold over the Internet at all. Never know until you try though. :crazy:
Anyway, the kind of website someone can expect is more like the ones on the "Portfolio" page of our site.

It was changed to 20% per sale which puts you just under $60 for our least expensive hosting package.

Sorry to bump an old thread but this affiliate program has a lot of possibilities and I can see plenty and hope that your open to allowing affiliates back in it again. I like someone with passion and your design is really well done so I think it could work. Hope the affiliate program get more votes. Waiting for the doors to open
