    Hello,
This is my first post here and I'm so glad I found this site!

I am helping my cousin on local seo with his business website after someone else did the seo for it.
I have noticed that different pages are showing on Google for their corresponding keywords which is great,
but the main page is no where to be found for ANY keywords.

The last guy created all his back links pointing ONLY to the main page for ONLY 1 long tail keyword or a slight variation of it or the website name as anchors. So I assume this means that the other pages are ranking (none on first page of Google) just from on page seo, since NO backlinks point to any other pages.

His website is built on Wordpress using the popular SEO plug in that I cant remember at this moment.

My cousin wants his his MAIN page to show up on Google for a certain local 3 word keyword, but its no where to be found
EXCEPT, until today a different page " www-domain-cm/tags/keywords" was on page 5 of Google for this keyword...that page is gone now too (ill start a diff thread for that one! hoping its Google dancing).

Btw, the site is 2-3 years old and the last guy started making backlinks since last November on blogs/sites that seem to be on topic of my cousin's cleaning business.

It's been like this even before I started work on it. The only things I have done so far is correct spelling /grammar, embedded my cousin's youtube videos of his business on main page and yesterday updated the urls to his business on those youtube videos and posted comments on 4-5 PR2-4 .edu blogs (which I don't think have been approved yet or ever will).

I thought it could be keyword stuffing, but other pages are showing up with same or similar keywords in header/title/meta.
The main page does have a wider variety of keywords on it though, but I think that is normal since it has sections with keywords
and descriptions linking to their respective pages.

I dont think its banned by Google because when I do "site:domain-cm" it shows up as indexed. (it doesn't show up when do site:www-domain-cm though)

Any idea why the main page isn't ranking at all?

Thank you! Any advice from this awesome community would be so much appreciated!

When did you notice the change? After September 18th? If so then you got hit by the new panda...

Hello, Thank you for the reply.
I noticed this on August 15th when I "took over"...so before the update.
The recent update actually affected the only page (www-domain-cm/tags/keyword) that showed up for the keyword
and made it go from page 5 down to page 17 and then came back to page 5 a few days later....BUT as of this afternoon, even that page is gone (I need to start a new thread for that one cuz I updated 7 youtube videos with that EXACT url (www-domain-cm/tags/keyword) yesterday as a test to see what would happen and now that page is missing!

Anyways, to answer your question....long before Sept 18th.

Any chance it could be because www redirects to non-www, but non-www doesnt redirect to www?
The back links are a mix of www and non-www if I am correct. But the other pages that do rank for keywords
have zero back links going to them. Just trying to eliminate possible causes.

Thanks once again for your reply!

    Home Page:
Its more like filter. Add webmaster tools for this site and read comments send by Google (if any). Operator->site:url.com give you idea about what is in primary index, but not about filters. Its looks like main page has filter -90, and that is penalty for spam / wrong seo.

BTW use some tools to spread links on different platforms. Use wide/different keywords and anchors.

Thank you both for the replies! It is appreciated greatly!
I am helping my cousin for free because business is very slow for him right now
and getting his site on or near 1st page would help him greatly. He can't afford adwrds anymore too.
I'm a newb at SEO, but Im trying to read and learn as fast as possible. I actually really love this stuff..but
I need to learn to be patient and brave. I also need to be diligent and disciplined since right now Im
    doing things manually myself.

I already had Google webmster tools already setup hoping to figure it out...but no errors or comments that would lead to cause this. Im not sure how our site would get that penalty. There are many keywords on main page, but each one is repeated no more than 2 times, maybe 3....other than name of City and the word "cleaning" (cleaning biz). There is title (with link) and description for each page of services on main page. "cleaning" shows up 34 times and City shows up 38 times on main page not including any info or keywords in HEADER . Could that be the cause of the spam/bad seo or is it caused by back links? I dont know if I should post the domain name here.

I agree and I have already started manually building a basic linkwheel with that in mind. Any tools that you can recommend to make doing that easier/better/more efficient?
