What with all the madness surrounding this bloody Google Update ATM i woke up to some good news today!

I had signed up with Viator quite a while back, added a few links and widget's but didn't really follow through with doing it properly.

Yesterday I started going through my whole site and inserting the widget's, Links and banners properly and methodically and BOOM! Got my first sale!

I'm chuffed, it's only for $26.59 - but you have to take the first step.....

Congrats on the sale. How do you promote Viator? Do you have a travel blog?

Promoting using their Links, Widgets and have put a banner on every footer and header on the site - this first sale was via widget on a post...

I've built it more like in line with authority sites I researched - places to visit, things to do, events, holiday ideas etc - so no blog section, just pages and content/posts for those pages.....

Thanks for congrats everyone as well

Just curious @MrApple How long have you been working on your website before you got your first sale?

4 years.....was plodding along with it, uploading content twice a month, built up my IG & FB to 1.2k and 4.3k followers by posting pictures very sporadically and stopped posting on them last year - was not taking the site or brand awareness very seriously

I never started monetising the site until the back end of last year and even then just put a handful of Viator widgets on it.

Beginning of this year I decided to pull my finger out, have been updating the old content, trying to put new content up more regularly, adding Viator affiliates from this week, will be adding Get Your Guide Affiliates from next week, then Ticket Master affiliates once I've updated the events section....then I'll move onto holiday let's - looking at Booking .com and TripAdvisor, I got accepted by booking .com a while back but never did anything with it......then I'm going to be adding a Q&A forum to the site so travellers can ask and answer questions about the country

Still not doing Social Media, been dabbling with video content and looking at ways to produce content at scale so I can schedule in advance - this is one area that I do need to push as I'm pretty sure I can get these accounts to 10k+ followers pretty quickly which will generate some traffic back to the site...Also, as it's a travel/tourism site I should be on Pinterest...

All in all been very lazy with it and only just beginning to see the potential......

I want to post because I'm suffering the dreaded "If Only" syndrome.....should of been doing much more the last few years....and want to use this as motivation to keep monetising my site and pushing the content out and doing the right things....

I got into a couple of affiliate programmes via Awin a long time ago and put up a few half hearted links on some content and completely forgot about it and on the 18th of last week I got alert from my business account showing the attached amount had been put into my account.

This was from 2 holiday cottage bookings made back in January, got no notifications and hadn't logged into Awin in so long I had to change the password to see wtf was going on....

I'm planting the seeds and hopefully these are the first of many green shoots.......this site is a good motivation tool

@MrApple I am curious as to how many unique daily visitor is your site getting before you got your first sale? Are you considering doing paid traffic? SEO game is very slow to get traffic these days.

It's been up and down like a yo-yo since last August (Google update) and lack of posting activity had an impact and I lost a lot of traffic through to the end of last year. I came back to it at the beginning of this year and it's creeping back up.....

Up to the end of August 2023 was around 400 - 500 daily unique visitors, fell down to just below 100 by the 3rd week of December 2023 - update and no regular posting / updating effect

Last week in December until now I'm getting around 200 - 295 daily unique visitors. I've been updating the content and posting a more regularly.

Not big traffic numbers, not nearly enough affiliate links or offers (been adding more), no Social Media posts in a long time, never did any backlink outreach (starting next week) and I'm pretty sure I need to optimise /create funnel processes on the site, so looking into this

Not done any paid traffic - I'll take a look and see what I can get with my budget

This is my first site and I used to spend a lot of time on it, built it out, posting regularly on Social etc but let it slide as life got in the way over the last 18 months or so

There is something to work with, I just need to diversify the traffic sources and get posting more and learn about a few (possibly a lot) more things - especially around monetisation.....

Thanks for your detailed reply. Another question is how do you go about with the content of the site? Do you do first hand travelling or do you just do research from the web and post on your website?

Do research and post, I don't live in the country I'm writing about, I was born there though......

Congrats on your sale!

I am curious why you have no blog section? I have a new travel site in same format as you mention but with blog.

I know that some sites these days run blogs without any categories and post everything to root folder. In my case as travel website I have blog categories for several places to visit, things to do for my location. Each one of these categories is getting detailed articles posted. From organizational point of view its better to separate articles based on topic (category) and not mix them all.

Congrats dude. How do you promote Viator? Do you have a travel blog related website?
