So I was giving my 99 Tahoe a small tune up yesterday (plugs and wires) when I made the biggest newbie mistake that can be made! Can you guess what it was? I'm sure you can..... Yep! You got it! I took off all the damn wires at the same time! Now my hoe spits, and rides rough.....

Now the problem is that I don't know what order to put them back on. I know the firing order from the distributor (1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2) but the problem is that I do not know which wire is which..... This is gonna be HELL lol

Call autozone or advance auto parts and ask them which cylinder is #1 on the cap. It should be easy to figure it out from there since you have the firing order already.

I already know that part..... What I don't know is which wires are which. It's the actual wires I don't know the numbers to

Can you not have a semi guess based on the length of the wires ?

if you ask the guys at autozone they can tell you which cylinders are which. then use the firing order to rewire the distributor. I don't have the info with me here or I would tell you right now.

I tried that way, but didn't work. Looks like I have quite a few combinations of 8 to go through lol :D

Heres some expert copy/pasting from Yahoo answers for you !! looks like you need to pull of the distributor and get the crank sensor lined up (different car ...same principle)

It matter and the wires have to be right.
Here is the firing order.....1-5-3-6-2-4......, which # 1 cylinder is the closest to the pulleys on the engine and # 6 cylinder is the last one closest to the transmission .
On the vibration damper or pulley on the crank there is a timing mark. This is your # 1, open the distributor cap and you will see the distributor rotor. This rotor is pointing to # 1 on the distributor.
Put your spark plug wire to # 1 on distributor cap to # 1 cylinder on engine. Fit your cap on the distributor and make sure the wire matches the position of the distributor rotor.
The distributor rotor rotates clock wise.
From # 1 on distributor cap go clockwise for the next wire hole on cap this would be the wire for # 5 cylinder.
The next one would be the wire hole for # 3 cylinder and so on.
Just follow the firing order 1-5-3-6-2-4.

Also this appears to be the cylinder order on a chevy V8

#1 is on the d side front then 3,5,7 moving to the rear
starting in the other side from the front its 2,4,6,8
looking at the dist. the #1 plug wire is the 2ed turning clockwise from the hot and tach hookup in the side of the cap

No, I did not guess. I don't even know what this is all about. But cool story bro, nonetheless.

Glad to see you got it fixed yourself 2011nfl with the help of our community members. I always take a macro snap with my phone and record a little video before I start pulling any wires off the circuit.
