Not shared anywhere, but this place suites it nicely.

    Yep.

600k revenue for amazon based on average 5,5% commissionas. .
Whats left for me? 33k (33415€ in total .de .uk . us )...
The best: Most of it came from a 250€ point and shoot camera and a tripod, and some standard computer...

It was fun. Started in 2008.. Put amazon on my first sites.

Had my peak around 2010-2012 with close to 1k monthly.

Was pumping in total 1300 youtube reviews and 600 blog posts from 2008 to today.

But, I am done with it.

    It's not worth it:

    No employer is interested in.
No client gets it, nor is interested in video marketing (at least in #neuland .de) or affiliate marketing.
It's no real biz. You dont get recurring sales, no referrals, no brand and you can't "raise price". So stop thinking amazon affiliate sites will ever be "real biz".
It aint "passive income", cause you have to work hours a day to pump out content, either video or written.
And if you believe that "I rank once, I rank 4ever", or the "good content will rank itself" or the "great sites get links naturally" , prepaire for a rough landing in 1-2 years :)
I was there, you will be too.

I got sick and tired of "google dance". And it sucks a lot of REAL emotional juice, and time which you cant pump into other projects.

Buying links for ranking keywords with expensive posts, just to get "somekind of ROI"... expensive expired domains or accounts, or expensive links.

JUST to make the amazon cow fatter and fatter.

Guys, you can do what you want in your free time. Make some passion out of it. But I will close the doors now, and stop ranking amazon sites or pages anymore.

The 500-800€ "passive Income" aint worth it. And you need constant "investing" of link buiding to keep just to keep your sites where they are in # - otherwise, the competitors WILL come.

I'll still do video reviews, but that's more fun and hobby, doesnt have any cost involved.
And the best: the videos "rank themselfs"; as the other rats in the amazon-game embed them...

All the time, the links and so, I'd rather have spend it into real biz.
    Real recurring clients.
    Selling services.
    Getting referrals.

It's time to grow up. And I grew in the past.
And Its time for me to stop feeding that fat ugly cow, which I can't slaughter, and neither does produce any fat cheese at all.

I wont "focus" on serptracking any more "low volume" keywords, no more long tail keywords articles or videos, or finding "low competiton" keywords.
I'll remove a lot of links the next months and redirect them to sth more important projects and real biz ideas..
I will stop looking at search console and ahrefs to conclude "what article I could come up next", and will stop wondering, if "some article converts or not".

Like the say, It was fun, while it lasted.

Any questions? Feel free to ask, and I try to share, what I think is suitable.

And remember. If you neither get their email adress, phone number or postal adress, IT AINT A BUISINESS! You are just depend on some 3rd party - same goes to every other outsourcing shitsite out there too.

Sadly I have to agree with your sentiments. I learned this lesson, but on a smaller scale and with less time wasted. It can be fun at first, but it is NOT passive income, it takes hard work to develop an "audience" that is never really yours to utilize fully. I recommend it to newbies and people who like it, but once you grow past it, there are far better things to do with your time to make money.

If you can rank keywords and monetize via Amazon affiliate, you might as well consider fulfilling the product yourself. Either by selling the product that you're reviewing on Amazon or create your own personal ecommerce store. ROI should increase but naturally the risk is much much higher.

Problem as well, amazon commission rate is so low.

Nice read though, and it sounds like you had a lot of fun on the way.

Ps, maybe you should be looking to do some sort of joint venture with some local businesses that have econmerce sites - you have the crenditials to close a deal, then agree a better commission than the 5% of amazon sales.

I planned this out from the start.

I have a pets niche store and am ranking pretty high for some good terms.

However, I see the amount I am giving to amazon for a measly 8% commission.

Luckily, there are a good amount of pet products I can promote on aliexpress, etc, that I can sell myself.

So instead of linking to Amazon from my site, I can simply link to my own brand, easy as that.

As long as your site isn't targeting an "amazon" keyword, you aren't limited at all.

Good luck my dude with your projects.

It's funny because The Wire Cutter is an affiliate website that did reviews on products. They KILLED it in their content. Everything they did was spectacular and recently they got purchased by The New York Times for $30million. Let that be inspiration or motivation for anyone who thinks they can't make money from a simple affiliate website.

You made so much, so it is easy for you to make such statement.

More like a phase for you, wish you the best in the NEXT ONE!

I honestly have no idea why do people do Amazon. You can make 20x more if you dropship the product.

What? How? I get this if we're talking about amazon products which offer 2% or 3% commission, but in general dropshipping is known to be a business model with very low margins. If the product in hand offers 5% commission or higher, I'm fairly certain you will earn around the same, if not better than you would by dropshipping

Most of Amazon products come from Alibaba and are FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) (unless it's a brand). One example was a security camera going for $60 on Amazon, I found the exact same product with the exact same Chinese font for $15. Wholesale the price can go bellow the $10 mark. If you sold the product from Amazon you get around $1.8, if you sourced it your self you would get $45. That is around 25x times the revenue. $2 per sale is a JOKE!

one of the best quotes in th book "tools of titans" was "likes dont pay the bills"

Like I said, It was fun doing affiliate stuff.
but once you get to the point buying 200-500$ domains or 50-200$ blogposts and STILL cant get to page 1 for weeks, it gets insane.
well, gladly, I do have this build up "arsenal" and will put it to heavenly use the next months.

    I do like the idea.

But selling ANYTHING PHYSICAL in .de is close to stupid. without any llc (which costs 25k here), you are fucked and you still need expensive insurances.. no way I will sell PHYSICAL products in that live.

learned my lesson selling lollipops in 5th grade..

you still can grow the "amazon idea" over to clickbank and other sites. however, volume is so fuckn low...
but, in the end, it's the same shit.
If you sell, Like in my case 300 products for 2 € or 5 products for 100...
hence, you have less work ranking low volume high competition products.
still, you need expensive and strong links... either to rank to #1 or to keep you there..

well, I am even cutting on the "PBN stuff" for some clickbank products.
why should I stress my brain for 1 sale a month...
it just wastes up xls sheets, serptracker, statcounter and all the shit around that...

It's kind of sad. I worked like on 15 affiliate projects this year to get them ranking again..

Then I started 2 (!) biz ideas and made more in 3 month than all those sites together in 6 months...
well, as usuall I disclose the secret here (as usual marketing waterheads dont admit to their FAILURES). I also tested approx 15-20 biz ideas, that failed or got annoying.

Even re-selling social media services :/ - that was really fuckin annoying .. dam. just tyre kickers..

I sometimes, do video marketing for companies. it's fun for me. And they get their ROI usually within 1-3 days too.

Yes, but even if the price is smaller it's still a lot more profitable at the end.
For example if a product is $30 on Amazon, you will get $1 per sale.
If you find the same product on Alibaba for $15-$20 (which is possible) you will make $10 - $15 per sale. Which is still 10 to 15 times more.
If you initially made $700 a month from this site, switching to Drop shipping will make you $7,000 - $10,000. That's a very big difference.

You don't need all that for a dropshipping business do you? Must be some easy way to declare your income and get taxed without a fancy insured (for what?) corporation?
