Do low quality backlinks like Profile, wiki, edu, xrumer backlinks work with Authority sites.

    i.e.

In my niches I see sites like Cnet, iTunes and ofcourse YouTube URL's ranking well for their terms. Can you get URL's from these types of authority sites to rank
by using low quality Tier 3, link wheels, etc?

You can get just about anything to rank with the right amount of quality links. However, getting an n/a no follow link with 5000+ external links isn't going to do much for boosting rankings.

Also avoid trying to rank sites that were on the list of penalized sites from the farmer update. Those sites already have some sort of penalty in place that make it a pain in the rectum to rank.
