I promised myself some months ago not to start any new sites or projects, because I've already got enough work as it is.

But then I found two niche sites I had bought from a BHW seller way before I even registered here, the roots of my current IM efforts I might even say.

Long and dull story short, I decided to start two old sites again, because that way I can still keep telling myself that I'm not breaking my promise

The shared hosting I'd gotten for these was expiring so I moved them away from that home and to a new one - now they're happily sharing a VPS together.

Due to some serious time constraints I will not be doing the writing myself, luckily I just happen to have some great writers on my team (imagine that), and that part won't cause any problems for me.

The aim of this journey is to see if the sites have any true potential in them, never made any money off these as far as I can see (no idea how I managed that) but the keywords seem good enough and I'll just redo the design and content quickly. Currently the quality is telling me that I probably paid less than 50$ for both these sites in total :p So that needs a little fixing.

Let's dive in to the plan:

    • First I have to redo the design, and luckily I just happen to have a developer on my team. I need to lay down some serious bets today, because I'm feeling really lucky.
    • Second step is to edit the content and optimise the site's on page SEO. Yoast to the rescue (who sells sites like these and doesn't install a single SEO plugin??).
    • The third and final step for the initial plan is to have one of my writers do a content plan for the site and then act upon it. As it is a micro niche site it doesn't need tons of content, although one of the sites is in a micro niche that could easily expand to the larger niche it belongs under, but I'll have to do some research into whether or not that's sensible. The other one is in a micro niche that I won't even try to expand out of or I'll have to start writing fricking cookbooks to compete.

I'll be uploading two new articles each week to complement the original four that will be edited to my standards. Hopefully I could start seeing some improvements rank and traffic-wise before February.

This isn't a rush project or a journey done in a hurry, so I'll just keep an eye out whether or not the site starts ranking properly (it has some third page rankings now) in the coming weeks without any need for more SEO than the on page optimization.

If it doesn't then I'll just get an SEO service from BHW and let them handle the ranking.

The goal for this journey is to see whether or not I was an idiot to purchase two micro niche sites back when I was starting out and could it have actually been a worthwhile investment.

Money-wise I'm hoping to see the sites break 100$ per month in total, so the income from both added together, before... let's say May 1st. That leaves me with January to get the ball rolling and then three months to improve and tune the sites so they'll start making more money.

These babies better make their first dollars each before February or I'm tossing them to the bin. ;)

I'll update the rankings and earnings as I go, maybe even tell you a little about what I'm doing to the site while I'm at it.

    Let's see how it goes!

    Tack!

Not a 100% sure yet about the content, but for one of the sites (the one with little expansion potential keyword/niche wise) it's probably going to be something like 5000 words and that's it. For the other one I might just keep going and see what comes from it, but that depends on how well it starts making money.

This is really more for fun that anything else, but I like money, so if the sites start decreasing in revenue after stopping the content drip feeding then I guess I have to start drip feeding it again. I'll be back with an update when the time comes and then we'll see whether or not the 5000 words was anywhere near the real figure.
