About 3 weeks ago i was getting 800+ unique visits per day, many of which were through 'keyword1' and LSI terms from this that I noticed Google had just automatically decided to rank me for. When i saw visitors coming in for these LSI terms, some of which where terms with a few thousand searches a month, i added these to my SERP tracker.

3 weeks ago i fell off the first page for all the LSI terms, but my main word was still #1. I built new content around the LSI terms, as opposed to building links to the existing page to try and re-win these rankings.

My 'keyword1' had dropped from 1st to 3rd last week, and has now dropped from 3rd to 7th over night.

I've not built any links to this page for probably 6 weeks or so. Im not sure if some of my web 2.0 links will have been deleted, im going to check which are active via scrapebox today.

Just wondering, wtf should I do?

    Continue to build links again?

    ***SIDE NOTE***
I have a 2nd money keyword 'keyword2' which is completely unrelated to 'keyword1' This is still #1, and has been for over 6 months. (It is a lot less search voume and lot less competitive however). So its just 'keyword1' which has been affected (NOT my entire site / rankings)

It's weird that one of your keywords has received a drop and the other has remained.

Are you using anchor text related to the keyword that has dropped still? I'd recommend just to keep consistently building backlinks and content, this is all you can do really.

Like I say ive not built any links for a while. The last lot i built (when my rankings previously dropped) i built a few exact match anchor, and a few domain name anchors.

    This is interesting.

Couple of questions : Is the site more content oriented to keyword1 or keyword2 ? Adding more non keyword relevant content to the site can lower your rankings for that specific keyword and should explain the LSI drops.

Also are you monitoring your competition ? Maybe they are just outranking you for your keyword.

That is a valid point virtualpurity: I see a lot of people go off chasing a "problem" with their site without checking that it's not just the competition doing better SEO. Particularly in competitive niches / KWs.
