So I have an amazon affiliate niche site I started over a year ago. It was growing well in traffic and earnings and by July '15 I was making $3,700/mo from Amazon with 850-1000 unique hits per day.

Everything I was doing was all white hat. I had and have really good ******** backlinks. However... Just before the PBN penalty scare last Fall, I had already started building 2 different PBN sites just for me from 2 decent expired domains. One was similar to my niche and the other was a movie review site. I wrote several basic articles and gave myself one good text link on each site. I kept everything as is for a while but once I realized I was doing so well, I wanted to go fully white-hat, in case Google figured out how to penalize my PBN links, ending my $3,700+ cash cow (my worst nightmare). Right after "going clean" I started to notice a slow dip. I had let the 2 domains expire, thus losing 2 of my good backlinks. Traffic started to go down, money went down. I went from $3,700 in July to $2,000 last month, and again this month. This chart doesn't look like much but it's about a $1,700 loss http://imgur.com/JxEXhLW

Looking for some help here. I had the two sites on seperate IPs on IX webhosting, all different than my money site. The domain names I had let expire are not available anymore, though I don't see a site built on them. Anyone experienced anything like this when trying to "go clean" ?

Well good news. Turns out it was just my hosting that expired, not my domain names. With the holidays coming up I decided to take the risk of getting those sites back up and running. To look less suspicious I only launched one of the two for now then will add the 2nd site back live in a month or so.

The saying goes "When something is not broken don't try to repair it". OP learned the lesson, good to know that you still have those domains.

Thanks, guys. I guess I was just trying to be proactive because I didn't think those links were that valuable, but since they were homepage, text links of my best keywords, they were a lot more valuable that I thought. Nothing crazy though, they're both DA 22 and PA 35, and DA 21 and PA 34. Just added an article back to the first one to keep it fresh. I can't afford to miss out on that Amazon holiday income
