I normally use Y for an indication on my backlinks.

For kicks, I also kept track in G.

In the lat 4 weeks, I have dropped approximately 1000 links in G, while Y has remained constant.

Has anyone noticed this, and it seems like this can't be good news.

One of my friends who has several porn sites said the same thing. According to him the "G" has changed their search algorithm, but when I looked it up, I couldn't find anything.

All of my sites, both white, grey and black are loosing links like the Titanic sinking.

I'm not sure what is going on with G, would guess it is some type of change to their system that counts links.

Or, it could also be a temporary issue and they are tweaking something else.

Google is forever tweaking its algorithm hundreds of times a year
But i feel there is more hand editing going on now then ever before
And some site that are penalized will almost never recover

I think if your site is not in the top 20 we should all ban google bot
for a month or two just to let google know its our sites and work that make them

Even better - an internet boycott of Adwords. That would really fuk em up.

Anyway, you can't even get 2 people to agree that red and blue are different colors on the net so a co-ordinated anything would be a non starter.

Google: 0 backlinks
Yahoo: 100 backlinks

And my site is not banned from google + domain is about 6 months old.

Same thing here. I went from page 1 and 2 to Alice in Wonderland. Screw G.

yeah, it's tough. I was wondering if it was some of the backlinking I did to cause the problem. It sounds like it's happeing to others as well.

I agree, a ban would be nice, but they would win and we would certianly lose.

I'm hoping it's temporary, or at least we can find out what changed and get the backlinks a different way.

Yahoooo definitely picks up more links than G does. You could always export your Yahooo links and dump them into a pinger type program. It would give G another pass at them and maybe they'll get spidered (and credited) this time?

I think you will find the the G sees all the links
It just will not show you all they see
Maybe it only show the ones passing link juice
or the ones it sees as relative to your site/webpage?
some one in the US give mat a ring and ask

Yes, this has always been true, but if significant changes are taking place in rankings along with reported links, there could be a connection.

I agree, this has been by result so far.

I'm wondering if they filtering out directory backlinks, social sites, article submissions, etc.

You are looking for black and white answers that?s not there style
More is this a affiliate site if yes discount the directory links to the main domain
At the same time allow back links from directories to subpages
And reverse this for social bookmarks just to piss people of
If it still keeps popping back up slap it with a ? 500 penalty on the main domain

Same here guys.. I've lost HUNDREDS of backlinks per site. And THOUSANDS of my sites pages have been de-indexed.. but my sites are still indexed.

I've also been knocked down in PR from PR 3-4 to PR 1-2 now..

This suckz ass, anyone find out any news or what to do about it?

UG

I am also in the same position with one of my sites, the backlinks and pages with backlinks have just disapeared from webmaster tools, i have been wondering if this is a penalty under a new algorithm as not just directory backlinks, social sites, article submissions have gone but many solid links. Other sites of mine are fine!

I have also experienced a decrease in total no. of links. I think it has to do with some new algorithm that simply clear out links that has less value or are more irrelevant / random.

Links coming from refererlogs, blog comments and so on. It would be a wise choice from Google since those sorts of things often are target for spam and decreasing the value of such links would be beneficial for White Hat sites and clear a lot of spammy links.

This is why it's always important to make sure you spread your links and not only target a certain link technique. Always do it all. :)

Actually ive noticed just the opposite
the link: statment in google never gave any results for my site
but now it shows about 500 but i belive i have 3850 +
if i search on my domain name i get about 3850 results anyway
a quick look at the results seem to all be links to me

i have noticed that the number of results that google displays on
all my main keyword searches has reduced as well, by about 20-30%
which must mean a lot of results must have been removed form
the database. only one search term has now got more results.

i have dropped only a few places on a few search terms
all of which are very competetive and are never stable

hope this helps a bit

I had one site go down and another go up. Both are similar in style but totally different content and have used similar link building techniques. Very odd.
