I've had some hits, and some misses. I usualled to use my gut and think "oh, this will be ok to promote, i know load of people who want this!" ... but it turns out the people i know are the only people who want it! lmao! Now i use alot more thought! Still have some good guesses though!

But i've had some good money makers too, and although they performed better than expected, they are never enough! Guess everyone just wants to grow.

If more people moved to white hat, they'd make more money. Well, thats my theory! :p

I've been doing IM for 6 years and I've had a ton of misses, a few dozen money-makers and a couple of home runs. I'm constantly testing new markets and things that do work often surprise me.

It took me about 2 years to understand that selling and marketing are two different animals and once you know the difference it can make a huge difference in your income.

I've found that targeted traffic is the real key to produce sales and once you master that you can pretty much get into any niche that people are spending money in.

@jammie: I think you're right, to a degree. White Hat can provide long term automated $ (if done right). BH can make you a quick buck but the methods need to be constantly tweaked and there is usually a risk factor. They both serve their purpose.

Haven't found anything solid enough to quit my day job. That wouldn't take much either.
I think the way to go next for me is create my own affiliate program. I work my ass off night and day @ IM and in the three months I have been doing it, I have made less than $100 total. I certainly won't give up as I am aware that anything worthwhile takes time and work but it would just be nice to one in awhile have a banner day like even $100 in one day! So, I didn't feel so much like I was bustin' my ass for nothing.
I think the next step for me is going to be to create my own product and affiliate program. Maybe that way, I can get a few dozen people or a few hundred people selling it for me. Less work for me that way.
I have tried dozens of things from here and elsewhere that I was sure would work good but just ended up being kind of a fizzle money-wise. Kind of hard to keep a positive attitude when you keep getting to the 1-yard line only to realize there's no end zone.
Gotta keep trying though. Not a lot of choice unless I want to keep working for a couple hundred bucks a week for a guy that can't even spell properly and owns a sign business LOL!

White hat methods will get you something to fall back on.... something long-term, if you set it up right!!

Black hat is the way to go if you need cash quick.... shit gets WAYYYY to overloaded WAYYY too quick!!!! Once somebody leaks a method, it's saturated....

Keep trying, and don't give up!!... the income will come along eventually, you just have to learn how to get things rolling, and eventually you'll get the hang of things!!

I have to agree, WH is a good, stable and a more long term approach.

I wanted to add that sometimes your next "thing" comes from one you may have failed at... it's true!

I found my best money site (so far) was an offshoot of another set of ideas. My current focus for one of my 2009 sites (categories), came directly from an existing site - because I learned that there is a huge demand for this other thing... and my current site is pretty dedicated, so I am starting an entirely new website for this new niche category.

And yes, these things still do get me very excited - kind of like a natural high to me (winning)... versus this other HIGH which I tend to manufacture.

I've probably invested just about 2000 bucks on programs and utilities to launch different niches. I can say that maybe 1:5 of my niches have worked. Of course I've made 2000 bucks back and more, but it's just effort. I'm doing a really untested BH method that's bringing in more than most of you could imagine, but the start up cost wasn't even a joke to begin with. I'm happy as it is and I hope this 'niche' I've found won't be blocked anytime in the future. I could retire within 2 years if it keeps going :D

You know what I'm trying now and if I stick with it I'm confident I can continually build it into a nice, consistent, profit stream.
