I have a niche that I want to pursue, but after running it through google keyword tool, I'm a little discouraged. I already knew it was a high competition niche, but even the long tail phrases I was planning to go for are still considered "high" and only get about 50 unique searches anyway. On broad search terms like "cheap niche" "cheap niche reviews" "best niche" etc.. they are easily in the 20k-60k search range. Is this niche worth pursuing? I've always been iffy about going after high competition words. I hear both sides of the argument, some people say high competition is a niche with a lot of money in it, and to go for it, others say it's better to find low competition that you can dominate, but unless you monopolize it is, you always run the risk of busting your ass for pennies pretty much.

I don't really plan on doing any tricky SEO, or really have a budge for it. So no PBN or backlinking building. I've always made my sites and let them grow backlinks on their own. I hardly do any SEO really, I feel like quality will get you all the juice you need.

Has anyone had any mild success in a high comp niche? I would be competing with huge retailer sites on the first page, and a couple review sites that have been active all the way from like 2008 until now..

    What do you guys think?
