Hi all,

I make jewelry, I am planning to start Instagramming and want to make sure that I have the right content strategy, so I thought that I'd ask you guys for advice.

If I were a ski brand, I guess I shouldn't just keep posting pictures of my skis, but rather pictures that convey the mountain sports lifestyle, right? People who are passionate about skiing will never get bored of seeing great photos around the themes of mountains
In my case, there is no such universe associated with the product. I can't imagine people wanting to watch pictures of jewelry every single day, and even though there are some nice pictures to be taken about what's around (the making, photo shoots, etc) it would also get boring pretty fast. Plus it would feel like I'm constantly trying to advertise and people hate that.

However I was thinking that there might be another way for me to reach out. I've noticed that quote boards seem to be very successful. So I was thinking of making text-based jewelry like the that piece I made below, and try to infiltrate quote boards like that. Because I figured that I get featured on one of these big quote boards I would get a lot of views, would I not?

If some experienced instagrammers could let me know their thoughts on this strategy, I'd be most grateful. Thanks.

Sell the sizzle, not the sausage.

You're not selling a rock wrapped in a rare metal, you're selling luxury and class.

Just like the skiing example, you should be posting pictures that convey the lifestyle that your customers want. Make them want what you're showing them, show hot models hanging off the side of a powerful man who's wearing your watch. Show a woman who knows her man loves her because he just brought her your necklace. Promise them a better life, and make them believe that your product is the key to what they want in life.

+1 to the above.
Would also consider leveraging holidays and other occasions - check what's trending and post something *relevant*. Have a look at the TEDx talk called "How to build a community, told with chalk: Kerri Martin at TEDxNavesink". Sorry, can't post links yet! :)

Thanks for the replies.
Yes I will post photos with models, but it looks a lot like advertising.
I also thought of offering gold pieces to Instagram influencers, with their motto or instagram handle, but I always wonder how many of their audience is over 13 years old.
And I'll watch that video

If they have a business account ask for a screenshot of their age rage and it will tell exactly the age groups that are following that instagrammer

quotes i don't think are the way to go in your niche ...... or you consider them really interesting ????

influencers and shoutouts are a way to try.

@rinoahart I watched that TEDx talk and yes thanks, it's a great example of using messages to gain awareness on a different product

ha! Didn't know that. Thanks a lot.
if you ask for their full follower insight you'll be able to see their age range, gender split (what percentage of thier followers are male or female) and locations such as top cities and countries.

Also, is it possible that in the case of brands, a sizable portion of their followers and likes are fake?

only if the person behind the page purchases them (yes there are some spam accounts that auto follow but those are negligible)
