Yeah, don't bet. Football is the most unpredictable game out of the big four. There's a reason they say "Any given Sunday". It's very hard to make a profit with football (College and Pro).

If I had to choose, baseball would be the best game to bet on. Baseball is 7 months out of the year with over 2400 total games + the post season. That's a lot of games to choose from and most importantly for the oddsmakers to fuck up. If you can stay disciplined with it, do proper research, you can make some nice coin. Between baseball betting profits and DFS winnings, I've taken some really nice vacations this year:)

The only other form of gambling I would endorse would be Blackjack, but $500 isn't nearly enough of a bankroll to get you anywhere.

    Good luck bro.

Blackjack? Are you using the Hi-Lo system? How many decks of card is your dealer using? Are you using +5 and above to determine big bets?

I think he means real football not American football ;)

@op I used to do it a bit but trying to be a 'pro gambler' isn't really a good idea, its hard to make money in the first place and once you consistently do the bookies ban your accounts lol.

There's 100s of different strategies, one i used to do was:
Have a look at league/fa cup games in the UK, as an example a decent championship side playing a average prem side at home. Check the previous league cup games and see if the prem team normally starts with their strongest squad, if not then lay it.
Bet the night before if its with a bookies as you'll normally get better odds than on the day, when the team sheets are announced and it shows the prem side starting with shit players the odds should go up so you can go and bet on it, at that point you'll normally get much better odds on exchanges like betfair.

There's a easy strategy for horse racing if you have a lot of bookies near you in real life, they'll ban you/restrict your bets though hence needing a lot. Will get pretty much instantly banned if you do it online

It's a combination of many things. I'm not a card counter, but I have a very good instinct for the game. I understand the ebb and flow of the game, which comes from many years of playing as well as a few years of being a dealer myself (knowing when to push and when to pull back). I also have a very good grasp on the odds for each individual hand. One of the biggest mistakes I see novice blackjack players make is, they depend too heavily on Basic Strategy. There are too many plays with Basic Strategy, which are wrong mathematically and also situationally (I may play a particular hand differently with a full table, opposed to 1-1). It's also important to choose tables, which benefit the player.. I.E - dealer stays on soft 17, player can double down on any card, etc.. As far as number of shoes...I try not to play over 6, in fact I prefer 6 shoes. With bankroll, I try to bring 10X what my max bet will be. Betting tolerance for that night might depend on my mood, or current cash flow situation, but I never start with less than $2K. Many times it's more in the $5K range.

The other rules I try to adhere to are:

    1) Don't drink when I am playing (as @BassTrackerBoats knows, I sometimes break this rule)
    2) Don't gamble with money you don't have and if you lose your original bank roll, do not hit the ATM ever. EVER!
    3) Know when to walk away. If you are up 10-25% on your bankroll, get the fuck out. Easier said than done, but doubling or tripling your bankroll is an anomaly. 25% profit on $2K is $250. Not a bad day at office.

Now, I don't play a ton, maybe 8-10 times a year, but more times than not I make a profit. Many times I just make enough to take my wife out to a nice dinner and see a show. My rooms are always comped and I get all kinds of free shit from the casino. It's all about being smart with your money.

Speaking of, here's a great article on the subject. This dude lives right down the street from me:

I am a bit of an opposite as I prefer to count cards and play when the shoes allow me to have an edge over the house. But the issue is that usually the pattern of betting will give away that I am card counting if I am playing alone. You need to have at least 3 players with one being the big ass player who come in for short term play (not more than an hour, win and get out). The other two will be primary card counter and watcher.

Believe or not, I've been booted from a casino this year under suspicion of counting cards. They didn't specifically tell me that, but there was no other reason to toss me other than they were watching my betting patterns. I have really good instincts, to the point where I can sometimes actually call the cards (I call it "The Zone"). But ultimately, keeping track of that much shit is not my strong suit. I've tried before and end up losing track mid shoe and just say fuck it. Plus, I'm terrible at being sneaky. It just doesn't fit my personality.
