    Hi!
I was about to start advertising a clickbank product with google ppc. I was wondering if it is reasonable to put my domain name http://www.riffguitar.com in the ad and have my domain redirect to the publisher's sale page. I have no hosting for this domain. Also I don't think I could pre-sell at all as their sale page is pretty good and beefy.

Will this mess up the my site quality? i.e. google make me pay more for my ads.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I have never used paid advertising before.

I have to go to uni, I will be back in a couple of hours.
    peace.

I think you would do better with a pre-sell page - building trust is key with clickbank products. As in 'Hey, I just tried this and was cool - go here to see' <short version> lol

Not really trying to discourage you but........Unless you come up with something really creative you are pretty much going to lose at adwords + clickbank products. I wish you luck man

Dont get me wrong man give your idea a shot, theres no shame in trying anything just set your budget really low like 5 or 10 dollars..........or at your breakeven point (whatever the commission is) but if you dont have the money to blow testing things I wouldnt mess with it

How is your competition promoting the cb product you're considering? Although direct linking is not dead, its effectiveness depends upon the product you're promoting. You'll discover that the more competitive a product is, more likely there will be review sites. If you're searching for a product and all of the ads redirect to the sales page, what are you offering the searcher?

In regards to redirecting to the sales page, you'll have to outbid all of the other advertisers that are doing the same thing in order for your ad to show (another reason why it's better to have your own domain).

I would also suggest using keyword spy pro to find your competitors' keywords, so you know what they are spending money on.

yeah i don't have much money to be throwing around, I figured that i could possibly make money if i targeted really specific keywords. Do you know what's the deal with the google quality score if I just redirect to the clickbank sale page?

There is no way to tell you what the hell your quality score will be, unfortunately its just pretty much random you just have to set it up and see what comes up.

just doing a domain redirect with an A record change will be tagged by Google. There are times when I've seen this get by the initial bot scan but it almost always gets flagged by the manual review and you are slapped. At least that was my experience.

The advice in this thread is spot on. Presell pages and review sites work better.

If you are going to make direct linking work then you need:

volume - you have to be able to scale out lots of adgroups/campaigns
non-competitive keywords - you don't want to get into a bidding way because of the 1 url policy.

finally, google is slapping clickbank hoplinks lately. All the more reason to move to a presell page / review site model.

the cb product is guitar lesson software, it comes with videos and books. If I make a specific search such as 'guitar lesson program' there isn't much competition. Just a couple of review sites. I'll have a look at keyword spy pro now, cheers man.

I searched your keyword in quotes and see three ads that are all review sites. I would check which keywords G believes these sites are about. Use the G adwords tool and select website content. Review each domain advertised and you'll get a good idea of what your site needs to cover (I would use keyword spy pro on these three sites to see which keywords they are bidding on as well).

Once you have your review site up, use the G adwords tool for your site and be sure to not bid on any keywords that G has already decided is not what your site is about.

As far as sources of guitar review sites, I highly recommend (not an affiliate link)
    Code:

This guy has WSOs quite frequently and has great customer service.

    Best of luck!

it's all about being creative..CB product is hard to sell right now in the saturated market..but the creative one, will conquer..

also it's about take an action to it..eg..if u want to go with ppc, then take action..don't lose your focus whatsoever..

the keyword also, it's not the case..i give you a quick example for that..

let say, they were thousands, or maybe hundred thousands of people, trying to play guitars right? Then, they were all searching for the free lesson..but they didn't know that, even the free one is not enough to make them better..

so, from the keyword, let say " free guitar lesson", they will be thousands of sites..but then, u want to sell your products..think like the searchers..maybe some of them, have tried to much to learn from the free sites about playing guitars.

u could create an ads like " tired about free guitar lesson? for $xx, you'll be like a pro!"...that's only the eg..

so, it's call to action ads for those who search for "free guitar lesson"..

but, to not burn your cost for happy bidder, or those who just find for the info, u would not go for a broad set of keyword..especially if you a newbie..go for exact match instead...

u can also put -negative keyword for the campaign, to avoid those, "info people", to see your ads. make sure, before u run PPC, u make a landing pages about it..

eg..you could make a quick landing pages, let say, why they must buy the product..put urself in their shoes..make a video about it..simple..make a video about how well you playing guitar with the method you learn from the book..if you could not play it, it's not tough to find friends that can play well..

it's all about creative and a lot of testing..which set of keyword, which landing pages, that could be make more ROI..

quick tips about how to get a better quality score,

    1) put relevant set of keywords in the relevant set of ads campaign.
    2) use free adwords keyword tool to test ur landing pages..if google show the relevant keywords of ur landing pages, same with the keywords that u are bidding on, then that's fine..

many more to come from me..but for now..that's all i can share..:)

    Thanks raj
I have already been through 80% of that course, I also had a look at the one week marketing ebook. The only problem is I don't have much money at the moment so I can't take many risks or test out a whole bunch of products. I'm trying to get it right the first time around.
