Talking about not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I was wondering if there were any cost free (or paid but possible to get for free) frameworks for a social network. With all the basics but the possibility for me to change, expand, etcetera.

Probably, it depends on the programming language, here is a Python one created with Django: https://github.com/vitorfs/bootcamp
