.02 OP In my honest opinion i don't think you need to advertise or spend money on SEO, i just think you need content for your forum. I mean I found BHW through google search on how to make money with twitter and BAM i'm here. Go on postloop and get people to post on your forum.

    Not just content.

Sure, content is crucial, but what you REALLY need is momentum, the initial critical base of users.

Having built and run a couple of forums in the past, I've learnt a few things:

    1) Starting up a forum from scratch is an EXTREMELY difficult task.

    2) Even if you have a sizable marketing budget, your forum won't take off unless you manage to a) produce loads of quality content beforehand; b) recruit a large number of initial members who will keep discussions active.

    3) Paid posting doesn't work, full stop.

    4) Creating shill accounts and using them yourself to create the appearance of lively conversations works, but only if you're knowledgeable in the subject and good at it. (doesn't happen often)

    5) Operating a forum isn't nearly as rewarding as people think it is. Sure, for a moment you get the feeling of being "the boss" but unless you're 14, this feeling will pass very quickly and replace itself with a constant headache.

    6) Once your forum grows, finding good moderators who know what they're doing, don't overcharge (or do it for free), don't abuse their powers and don't get tired from moderating is ridiculously difficult.

    7) Forums make MANY TIMES less money per visitor than almost any other type of site out there.

My honest suggestion - stop before it's too late and ditch the project. Not only are you likely to fail (nothing personal by the way - just talking statistics and setting your expectations straight) but the world really doesn't need another internet marketing forum unless I've misunderstood something and your forum actually as a USP, rather than being "just another new forum out there".
