I recently moved to a town of only 300 people in the middle of nowhere, and only have access to a dial up connection. I am unable to load the Google Adwords tool properly and am looking for an alternate for checking search volume. I am using the Bing/Excel tool for narrowing down my keywords very well, but would also like to take my "winners" and get a google search volume estimate. I do not mind if it only checks a keyword at a time, but have been unable to find one that suits my needs. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    Yours truly,
    Stranded with 34k ;(

First of all: thanks for your question, wanted to ask a similar one :)
Second: Have you tried something like satellite dsl? In Europe, we have something called SkyDSL where you can connect via modem and receive via satellite. Maybe this is an option for you?!

I'm sure you have a good reason for moving out there OP, but that really sucks. I don't even vacation in locations that don't have adequate internet access.

If you can't load Google's Keyword Tool properly, use their API so you can get the data you need with as little bandwidth as possible.

I would recommend you see which cell-phone provider has the best signal where you live and buy a tethering option with that provider for internet access. If that doesn't work, then I would go with satellite DSL.

Thanks for all of the replies. I can get satellite access here, but as we are only staying here while we wait for a house we want to come avail (a little over a month at the most), it is not worth the installation costs.

I am def. going to work more on using the G API as custom tools are the next step on my list.

No cell works great here. I have a Virgin mobile unlimited plan that I easytether and download movies while at work in town using aTorrent ;) , but I can't pull it out and work on the phone at the same time, so I make the best use of it downloading season 1 & 2 of the Walking Dead instead ;)

I have temp, switched over to using the Bing Advertising tool with Excel as a duct tape solution, and am even finding it very useful. With it already integrated into MS Office it is the perfect tool to use with Sikuli.

I have found the dial up to actually be helpful using this as I simply use my nationwide calling with several hundred different free internet access numbers linked to some old MSN advertising accounts I had but never used connecting from their own virtualbox setup and I can burn through a lot of keyword research and analyzing a lot faster than MSam ever could, and just take a set of the best and run off to the library in town (the closest real town is only 7 miles away) and Adwords keyword tool them if I must.

**Just remember to share a folder on your host system for all of the saved spreadsheets in all of your VBs so you have them all in one place. I sort of jumped the gun on this one an had to move several hundred spreadsheets to a single location manually after a very short time.

I did find another helpful tool in using Wordpot if anyone has been looking for something similar, but found Bing more useful for automating, though WPot requires no captcha so some of you using iMacros might find it a lifesaver if you like to walk away :).

Just writing back to share what I have done and what might help others as all answers to my questions are appreciated.

Got our house and back in town. Other note, MS had a bug, affected me more than slow connection I found, as I have updated it and it is running fine on free dial up (internet not hooked up until end of week) Thanks for the responses.
